Hello everyone. I am a forum member, interested of course in comics and popular culture, source and origin of many of our favorite figures. I also have a keen interest in academic books that study them in a scientific way, and since I don't see in our forums any thread dealing with it, I dare to inaugurate one myself.

Cheers!

To begin with, on Batman's 85th anniversary, I would like to suggest reading the following book, just published:

Would Grant Morrison's "Supergods" qualify?
Morrison´s "Supergods" (2011) is IMO a great essay, although somewhat simple and (perhaps) outdated. Nevertheless, Grant Morrison is, along with other authors (Alan Moore, Rick Veitch, etc...) a good example of how the comics medium takes self-awareness of the superheroic question.

If you are interested in academic writing on comics my advice would be to find relevant journals and search for articles there. I did a quick Google search and the university of Oregon has a minor on comic studies with a number of faculty who appear to have this as a research interest.
