Is this some newbie writer who just woke up and figured that all out? I love when someone enthusiastically tells you something they think is ground-breaking only to learn everyone has known this for a near quarter century.
In 1983 Star Wars was bled of its adult nature but i’m ok if people are just learning of that now lol

Lucas desexualized SW by giving us ewoks and cute Han Solo who blushes with a kiss on his cheeks.

As has been said before. Lucas forever froze SW into a childish existence by cutting adulthood at the knees with ROTJ.

I’ll give Gilroy some credit for trying to make Star Wars adult again.

I don't know if I'd go quite that far.

He did tone it down with the Ewoks, but he still did find a happy medium with adult tones such as the Rancor scene, Luke/Vader/Emperor and all out war aspect. He makes family movies. Neither really kids only or adults only. Gotta be something light hearted to keep kids engaged and parents willing to take them. Can't be all dark and dreary with solely adult themes. So I can live with the Ewoks. They never really bothered me in '83 as I was 11, but later in life I did see the silliness..

Disney doesn't get that. Only RO, and like you said Andor, are much more adult in tone. And funny enough those are the only 2 that OT fans truly appreciate. Mando would've been great, at least s1 & s2, but they went over board with Grogu. At the end of s2 when everyone was cheering for Luke (although that was awesome), I was cheering that Grogu was finally gone!! :lol

Skeleton Krew looks like it's so far removed that it looks like it would've been on the Disney XD channel. It's like the 2 Ewok TV movies for todays kids. And those were awful by every metric possible.

With the PT, EPI was more adult with politics and trade blockades, but he threw in Jar Jar. He tried to find a middle ground. And sell toys to kids. AOTC I'd say was balanced. But ROTS was pretty damn dark with Anakin turning. The only PG13 SW.

Yeah, Especially Leia and Oola were so desexualized I almost fell asleep...

Okay now I'm confused. I remember in 1997 George saying that the reason he added the stupid new song to Jabba's Palace was because he'd "always wanted it to be a much bigger musical number." So why not just...insert the extended sequence above into the film? I mean it's still kind of goofy but nowhere near as bad as the SE version and would have given us a lot more Oola as opposed to those lame cartoon singers.

Lucasfilm Ian McCaig just revealed that Lucas all the way until the final draft of TPM was going to have Obi-Wan be killed by Maul and his young apprentice Qui-Gon take on the name of Obi-Wan so when Obi-Wan said in ANH…”Obi-Wan. Now that's a name I've not heard in a long time”, he really was Qui-Gon!

What!

WHAT!!!

That doesn’t make a lick of sense lol

I mean, the story itself for me is that this was kept secret all this time that’s just as crazy!

But if Qui Gon takes the name Obi-Wan and actually goes by that name then why would it be a name he hasn't heard in a long time, lol.

It wouldn't even make sense as a name that he took after the Purge when he went into hiding.

It'd be like if JFK's driver was worried that he'd be next.

Driver checks into hotel, receptionist asks what name the room should be under.

Driver (nervously looking over shoulder): "Uh, JOHN F. KENNEDY."

:slap :lol

I suppose George thought it would be an interesting twist. We watch the movie expecting Liam Neeson to survive because one day he turns into Alec Guinness... only for the reasons you point above it doesn't work in the context of the story.

Wait, so in this version Liam Neeson plays Obi-Wan and dies, and Ewan McGregor's Qui-Gon assumes the Obi-Wan name? Liam can't be the one to survive because he's a foot taller than Alec Guiness. Even George would have realized that, right? Right?

6'4"? Now that's a height I haven't been for a long time. A long time...

These are silly fibs that make no sense.

Also, Darth Maul was originally to be called Darth Vader ... because ALL sidekicks to Sidious were to be named Darth Vader, since there is only one. But then... toys.

SW was never, ever ment for adults.

Not once.

It was ment to be a continuation of the weekly Flash Gordon serials that were why GL grew up loving.

They literally created the toys/ merchandising deals BEFORE the film was out?!?! But he clearly was aiming a child audience. Most adults at the time went with the SW crazy cause of their kids, they fascination of the films only lasted a few years and quickly fizzled out after they were done, but the KIDS kept it going.

Those kids , grew their whole lives through SW and grew to adults with adult tastes , and they naturally wanted SW to grow with them.

GL did NOT see it that way, and when he did the PT followed the same formula as the OT, kids first , hell even TOYS FIRST. The happy by product of man child adult males just happening to want them more than they kid!!( relax i am a man child adult male also.)

SW was never for adults. It's a common mistake SW fans who never grew up totally continue to make, we think it's for US and not for the kids....

If anything Disney ( a KID focused company$) TRIED to market some content for the adult fans also.....with some actual success.

Their failure if any is they tried too hard to balance ST and OT , trying to please everyone, and ended up pleasing no one.
