The killer of killers should be on that poster.

I vote for Wendy Torrance.

Just can't see Mackie as Cap; all due respect. It's not that he's not a good actor. It's just that trying to have that kind of gravitas or sincerity doesn't seem to be coming naturally. He's better at being quippy. When Pres sez the world needs Cap it's like he's going to laugh in Ford's face.

And what is the name of this, exactly?

I think Mackie can pull off the gravity and sincerity fine, I just don't think his character has ever been interesting enough to center an entire movie around (and even the TV series seemed to struggle with that).

And slapping a Cap shield on him doesn't seem to change that very much, at least from the trailers I've seen so far.

Plus the fact he's a Cap with no super strength, which just seems... weird.

Yeah, I like Mackie, I like Falcon, and I know it's the nature of modern comics to evolve stories and ideas in this way. But Steve Rogers is Captain America to me, just as Clark Kent is Superman or Logan is Wolverine. It doesn't feel quite right or natural to me when they do this kind of thing. Putting all that aside, we got a lot of great Captain America stories in film already with Rogers, and I'm grateful for that. Beyond that, if they just give us a good, enjoyable film then I'll be satisfied with whatever. Marvel has fumbled so much recently that they need some wins. I rewatched Civil War about a week ago, and I recall that being one of the lesser movies at the time, but it was so damn good compared to recent Marvel movies.

Agreed. Mackie makes for a great Falcon. Should've been more daring and let Bucky be Cap. I know his past was too dark but... could've been a great story regarding all that. Instead we get silly Mackie as Cap, greatly reduced Winter Soldier (I'll call him Winter Citizen) and U.S. Agent Wyatt Walker

I thought in the Falcon and Winter Soldier show they almost gave Bucky a good story with his unrelenting guilt over what he'd done. In the last episode when he saved some people and they thanked him I thought that was going to be a big payoff and he would realize that he really is a hero and set him off from there, but it looks like that won't happen with what I've seen from Thunderbolts so far.

I loved Mackie as Falcon. As Cap it just seems... awkward. They aren't giving him the role that works well for him. I would absolutely watch a Falcon movie but a Cap (Falcon) America movie? Boring. Let him be his own hero identity. Let Falcon be falcon. Have him and Antman go on a fun buddy cop style adventure together.

Perhaps it worked in the comics, but I just cannot envision the MCU Bucky as Cap. He made for a great villain but his reformed WS is deadly dull to watch. And I have an even harder time picturing him leading the Avengers than Mackie.

Bucky works better simply as his story fits better with the heroes journey. We have seen him make mistakes or lose, so him reluctantly heeding the call after great loss and hardship feels natural and earned. At least somewhat. Falcon hadn't had the chance to go on a proper journey on screen before being handed the shield.

(And Bucky has super strength etc so physically he fits)

If you would have told me at the beginning that we would have two major Captain America films built around him, have him co-star in a TV series, and then be a major lead in another film, I wouldn't have believed it. But putting aside the Falcon and Winter Soldier show, I have enjoyed his arc so far. In fact, I think he's been one of the more interesting aspects of the MCU.

But I also have a hard time seeing him as a serious Captain America replacement. The optics would be really hard for the public to accept. Plus, the overwhelming guilt is relatable and makes him a more interesting character, but would also preclude his ability to be the kind of inspiring symbol that Captain America needs to be. Like Superman, one of Cap's primary personality traits is that of hope and optimism. That's not Bucky.

My Aunt Rosey in Phoenix has the same storyline but I bet you wouldn't want to see her as Cap.

falcon is falcon. that's the problem. he's just falcon.

it's like if you have a spiderman suit to starlord,
no.

even if starlord got hit by the spider and got spider powers, he is still starlord with spider powers. or if ant man all of the sudden got hulk DNA injected and turned to hulk, it's still ant man with hulk powers

there's absolutely nothing wrong with the actor that plays falcon. I really liked him in twisted metal. he's really nice. it just feels like he's still just borrowing the shield.
the falcon tv show was good I liked it.
