Captain America 4 Brave New World - February 14, 2025

Yep. Time Zurdo. Time is just a mofo. That said, if Elizabeth Olsen is the baseline I will F'ing tolerate the passage of time. Watched her the other night in His Three Daughters, which is 2023. I find that girl just distractingly beautiful. Not that she isn't a good actress, I think she is, but at the same time I'm just like 'holy ****' Sorry, I shall proceed no further, I've come home drunk. Anyway.

This is coming out on Valentine's Day?

I mean Marvels was pretty lame, but it at least had Brie Larson for me to ogle the entire time. And Thor 4 had the promise of at least a few good laughs amid all the stupidity.

Haven't bothered. It's not that I won't go (tho not in IMAX) but mostly because I wanna know if there is a tie-in to Thunderbolts. It might be ok-ish - will keep an open mind. Tho I think Mackie made a great Falcon and the part suited him better than being Cap.

Looking forward to seeing how low the numbers will be on this.

Well he's not Steve Rogers.

I am really looking forward to it but I am a bit disturbed at the level of negativity I have seen online.

Many people are saying that Bucky should have become Captain America, which seems so strange to me. A man who assassinated the most beloved president in history should become the symbol of America? But of course, Bucky was brainwashed when he did this - I don't see how telling the American people that you only killed their favourite president because you were brainwashed by the Russians would be deemed something in the plus column on his job application.

Then there is this obsession with Sam not being a super soldier. At the very core of Captain America is the notion that it was NEVER the serum that made Captain America. I don't know how many more times they can possibly repeat this before it sinks in. Some people ask how Sam can even throw the shield without super strength, which overlooks that, in the comics, the super solider serum DOESN'T provide super strength (that's the Power Broker treatment), so Steve Rogers has been hurling his shield with normal human strength for over 50 years.

It's odd that so many people clamouring for the return of Steve Rogers don't seem to believe in anything he actually stood for.

I stumbled across this, which I think covers off what the writers have been trying to convey:



Most of all, I am looking forward to seeing Diamondback. She was Steve's sidekick for about 10 years in the comics and it would be nice if her story could form part of Cap's story going forward, especially if Sharon is a bit of a grey character for now.

I fully expect Steve Rogers to return as part of the Secret Wars saga, possibly recast as part of a soft reboot. They squandered Red Skull and Crossbones so far so, in the meantime, I hope that they can world build a bit more and not let Cap's own universe be subsumed by the Avengers. CA: the First Avenger and CA: Winter Soldier have been the only proper Cap movies to date. I'd like to see more like that. Maybe even a TV series based on the Bloodstone Hunt.

Diamondback was my favorite female sidekick/love interest of Cap (STEVE ROGERS) in the comics, so that's why I have NO interest in seeing the current year MCU treatment of her. They already made John Walker lame, I'm in no hurry to see them do the same for Diamondback.

Don't feel super negative about it, except for the fact that it's Spellman & co. who IMO already horrifically squandered a natural frenemy bro action comedy with TFAWS. There's a fearsome potential for more ponderous leaden writing zzzzzzz. The swirling rumors of multiple reshoots beyond the reshoots normally done with any film, or negative test audience reactions, isn't helpful.

Yeah compared to Wandavision, FaWS lost a step for sure. I think I got more out of it than some because that was an adaptation of the story that started me reading Captain America comics.

That said, I have re-watched the series as a prelude to the new movie and without the weight of expectation, it holds up OK on a second viewing.

I do wish they would make a couple of series featuring classic Cap villains like the Skeleton Crew, Red Skull, the Serpent Society, Sinthea Schmidt, Batroc's Brigade (RIP Batroc), Arnim Zola, and maybe some more of Cap's partners like Demolition Man and Jack Monroe's Nomad.

Now that Mel has finally been returned to his Hollywood glory give me a Mel Superhero and SW movie!

Or better yet a proper Mad Max movie DIRECTED by him!

IMO part of the problem of recent MCU offerings are writers with no knowledge of the source material and proud of it. Not all the writers but some. "Everyone" knows the disaster these writers injecting their personal lives, lecturing, and indifference to core audiences and the characters has been.
Possibly - possibly we were in for another round of lecturing from Spellman and test audiences had had it, explaining the need for massive reshoots

I agree up to a point. I love Gemma Chan but from my limited knowledge of Sersi, she was a hedonist and definitely not coy. Also, Sersi turned Odysseus' men into pigs, so it's odd that initially she couldn't affect living matter.

As for Sam, he's far more left wing and reactionary in the comics. It was Jack Monroe who was more right wing and reactionary. Steve is liberal but tries to be apolitical.

Stripping Sam of his left wing Civil Rights reactionary roots completely is no better than making Sersi shy. Characters are more than the sum of their powers.

So maybe the writers ARE pushing a message but it's silly to say it's a message that Sam wouldn't push. That's the character.

Wolverine needs a serious amount of therapy. He has anger management issues, often threatens or even assaults his own friends and frequently commits criminal damage to other people's property but liberals aren't screaming for him to be turned to Peter Parker. That's the character. The universe is made up of different characters who believe different things.

Sam and Punisher are not meant to be the same and the negative reaction by some 'fans' is very much due to a lack of tolerance for other viewpoints.

Marvel is saying that this movie with the reshoots cost 180 million and not the 350-425 that social media is claiming….

Isn't all the CGI a HUGE chunk of the cost for one of these movies? If they scrapped previously shot stuff prior to having most of that rendering taking place then I could see the budget being slightly less than $200M. If the scripted story wasn't working I think Feige would have pumped the brakes on much of that CGI work. That said, I suspect the truth lies somewhere in between those numbers.
