HT's abs I think just come across as being softer, partially due to the scale of the fabric used. You're right about the chest plate and straps, didn't even notice how far off it is.

Looking at this statue.. I do wish the HT fig treated the torso armor in the same way. It blends in a lot more with the chest armor. VS this

Re: The Dark Knight New Costume PHOTO Thread. I really don't know about the separate waves. It seems the very first batch that got released last month had the different chest piece for the underlying body. That was a very limited batch though, and was sold mainly through Hot Toys distributors...

Re: The Dark Knight New Costume PHOTO Thread. Like Dally said, it's Raiden from MGS4 by medicom. Also a rubber suit fig, but not nearly as poseable as bats. I wouldn't recommend keeping Batman in that crouched position, might ruin the legs in the long run, and the torso gets pretty scrunched...
