Hot Toys Back to the Future II - 1/6th scale DeLorean Time Machine

Sounds like a possible short in the wiring for the button which I don’t doubt. On one of my wheels, the lighting wire was crushed under the mechanism and I had to very slowly pull out and it was flattened. Luckily the two wires inside didn’t short. Hot Toys quality control here has been beyond...

Hot Toys Back to the Future II - 1/6th scale DeLorean Time Machine

In investigating how I can rewire or even extend wires out, tried to open the front up but didn’t get too far. I know the main circuit board is under the hood. Only got as far as removing the front grille and some screws under there. Scratched the front a tad by trying to wiggle it off. Second...

Hot Toys Back to the Future II - 1/6th scale DeLorean Time Machine

I’m with you on this. Applying glue on the top layer is almost like putting tape on top. The stress will remain the same and a crack may still form at some point even under all that glue since the pressure fans outward. Loosening the screws to relieve all pressure completely would be more...

Hot Toys Back to the Future II - 1/6th scale DeLorean Time Machine

I can only guess it may be either stuck inside the vehicle or actually too short. I had new wire and a soldering iron ready to go after I saw danoby’s video. Attached pic is before I fixed it. Couldn’t pull it out any further.

Hot Toys Back to the Future II - 1/6th scale DeLorean Time Machine

Happy to report that after removing the wheel, I was able to safely extend the short wiring. Now I have actual cable slack and can rotate the rear wheel down! It’s finally complete!!

Hot Toys Back to the Future II - 1/6th scale DeLorean Time Machine

I’m so glad he opened up the wheel because I still have that issue with the wire being too short making it impossible to extend the wheel out. Now I know how I can safely open it and extend the wires without fear. He did a pretty good job with putting brighter lights in the wheel. I’m impressed.

Likely the two screws in the mechanism per wheel i mentioned previously. Loosening them up relieves literally all tension during the rotation. All of mine are loosened up so i can rotate as much as I want without fear.

Hot Toys Back to the Future II - 1/6th scale DeLorean Time Machine

Yet another observation: Hot toys actually created grooves in the arms that appear to be specifically for you to route a cable through. This almost perfectly hides most of the USB cable in the clear arms!

I’m glad to know you’re using this simple mod!

That is correct and the limitation as I’ve mentioned before is that it’s always stuck on Mode #1 but it does work with an external switch this way. Better than nothing now without having to take it apart to modify.

Hot Toys Back to the Future II - 1/6th scale DeLorean Time Machine

Ooh I’ve already tried that. Once power goes off and back on, it always revert back to Mode #1. It’s a digital switch so that’s the challenge. I tried opening up the front to see if I can see the circuitry but no luck so far after removing a bunch of screws.

Hot Toys Back to the Future II - 1/6th scale DeLorean Time Machine

Here’s another observation for those that wish to power on their Delorean lights via an external switch: If you hold/tape the power button down, you can turn off USB power and back on and the light will come back on. Unfortunately it only works on Mode #1 and you’d have to press it again for...

Hot Toys Back to the Future II - 1/6th scale DeLorean Time Machine

The way I see it, if you’re going to be turning the lights on, why not do it with some style? Besides, the stainless steel construction made the flux dispersal….. actually, it’s as simple as tape and a piece of a single peg round Lego that sits on top of the button. Now let’s see how long before...

Hot Toys Back to the Future II - 1/6th scale DeLorean Time Machine

In other news, I did a little “mod” so I wouldn’t have to open the hood each time to trigger the lights.

Hot Toys Back to the Future II - 1/6th scale DeLorean Time Machine

I just received my replacement and I should say I’m not surprised to report new issues. But thankfully no cracked joints. I unscrewed each joint so that the rotation was completely loose without any stress. So other than some pieces coming loose I’ll need to glue back, the rear passenger wheel...

Likely just dust or lighting. That’s because that part is hard metal. Yeah… why is THAT part metal and not the arm that holds the mechanism……

Hot Toys Back to the Future II - 1/6th scale DeLorean Time Machine

I wouldn’t worry too much. My shipped email came not too long after seeing “preparing to ship” which means they received the return. So that’s good news! I’d be more worried if your replacement got delayed along with the other folks here to May.

Hot Toys Back to the Future II - 1/6th scale DeLorean Time Machine

I wonder if that is because of all the replacements they’ve had to ship out and it’s affecting other pre-orders. Out of curiosity, when did folks that got the delayed email preorder?

Hot Toys Back to the Future II - 1/6th scale DeLorean Time Machine

I wonder if this means their first batch is now sold out? Their date shifted over to May-July
