A very thin application of Elmer's Glue actually sounds like a good idea to me. When it's that thin, it would remain flexible, and it dries almost clear. Fabric glue is extremely thick and gooey and hard to handle, especially with very small amounts applied to very small places.

The nose is gunmetal, but it's not that simple. The nose's paint is is highly polished, so it's able to reflect the black that immediately surrounds it. That means it has the appearance of being darker than it actually is. At 1:6 scale, it might be a lot harder to give the nose a paint...
