    MAD MAX/ROAD WARRIOR Customs

Thank you shells- I finished it this morning. Now I need to make the silicone mold and start casting them. I already happen to have some black liquid pigment for resins, so I'll be casting them in black. I have no idea how much interest there will be, since there seems to be only about five...

    MAD MAX/ROAD WARRIOR Customs

A preview of the shoulder pad & guard I'm making: The pad is complete, and the guard is about half done. I'm not going to make copies of the pad, because it's assembled from more than 25 pieces of fabric, leather, metal features, straps/buckle, etc... However, I am going to make a silicone...

    MAD MAX/ROAD WARRIOR Customs

Here's my problem- I have a bluray machine hooked to my TV, but not installed in my pc. Therefore, I can't take bluray-resolution screenshots. However, even at the lower DVD resolution, you can clearly make out his metal leg brace and his knee pad in the scene. It is almost 100% silhouette, but...

    MAD MAX/ROAD WARRIOR Customs

I have the bluray, and I can zoom-in on my big 44" LCD TV. He's wearing the full Road Warrior costume, without the binoculars. I'm considering making the grave scene as a diorama background, with simulated rust-colored lighting behind Max to silhouette him. Also, I found perfect 1/6...

    MAD MAX/ROAD WARRIOR Customs

Does anyone remember near the beginning of The Road Warrior, where we see Max walking with an elbow crutch and his jacket collar is turned up? I'm having a 1/6th specialist make a metal replica of that crutch for me, so I can have that scene as a display option. I researched the crutch, and this...

shells, that face is looking better and better. Nice work.

Thanks Wor-Gar! Here's a tip for getting good results with the red scarf. First, I recommend you draw a line around the dog's neck with a marking pen, then use a Dremel tool to grind a narrow, shallow trench on that line. Maybe just 1.5mm deep and 3mm wide, with rounded edges. That will make...

    MAD MAX/ROAD WARRIOR Customs

I'm getting the pair of metal cans (one open, one closed) that comes with the FullMetalCustoms accessory set in October. Also, I did a digital reconstruction of the Dinki-Di cardboard box that I'm going to print on heavy card paper, then fold into a box. Edit: Here guys, print one for...

    MAD MAX/ROAD WARRIOR Customs

Thanks guys. I went outside where it's cloudy and the current light is diffuse; got some MUCH better pics. Previous pics deleted. I really think the reduced ears and the bigger chin make this figure. If you're going to mod yours, remember: the ears are too big around the edges, AND much too...

    MAD MAX/ROAD WARRIOR Customs

Yeah punisher1974, that hadn't occured to me, but you're right. I rate this model 7 out of 10, regarding how closely it resembles the dog in the film. The proportions aren't perfect. I took measurements and compared the model to screenshots of the dog. The ears are very exaggerated in size, the...

    MAD MAX/ROAD WARRIOR Customs

Heads up: I found this 1/6 scale Australian Blue Heeler figure for sale on Etsy. Painted - $80.00 plus shipping, Unpainted - $50.00 plus shipping, from South Korea. I think it looks much better (and more reasonably priced) than the other one by 'King'. I already received mine, with VERY fast...

    MAD MAX/ROAD WARRIOR Customs

Looks great, shells075! I got my Ulli sculpt a while back, and I'm really happy with it. After I get my set of metal accessories by Jon De Guzman in October, I'm going to make a custom-sculpted shoulder guard of the Road Warrior version. I know a lot of people have had to use the 'Fury Road'...

    MAD MAX/ROAD WARRIOR Customs

Thanks for the compliments, Wor-Gar and cpoll36! And EcklecticBadges, glad to be of help with the glue. After my MAX figure is totally finished in the fall, my next custom will be Humungus. The two will be a good book-end pair. I'm going to talk to Jon De Guzman to see of he'll make the metal...

    MAD MAX/ROAD WARRIOR Customs

Update: All the zipper chain is in place. Now I'm waiting for small photo-etched parts to arrive in the post so I can make the zipper guides and pull tabs from them. The chain is Sterling silver and polished to a high shine; after I dull it a bit, it will photograph better.

    MAD MAX/ROAD WARRIOR Customs

Thank you cpoll36! Yes, zipped-up about 30% of the way, as in the film. The way I'll simulate that is by installing thin neodymium magnets on the inside of the jacket. Then I can slide the magnet connections back and forth a bit until the left and right zipper edges are touching. Lastly, I'll...

    MAD MAX/ROAD WARRIOR Customs

Here are some photos of my progress on the 1/6 zipper mod. I still need to apply more chain, then make the zipper guides and pull tabs... but so far, I'm loving the results. Compared to the original white zipper that came with this Iris jacket, there's no contest.

Yes, my head is fully painted now. I'm excited too about having accurate zippers, but I won't have my leather jacket in-hand until mid June. In the meantime, I'll do whatever testing I can in other ways. I think I have a plan for making the three other elements required for complete zippers: 1)...

    MAD MAX/ROAD WARRIOR Customs

I think I found the solution: 0.5mm box chain. The links are square, and only HALF A MILIMETER wide. By my measurements, that's a perfect 1/6 scale zipper. I can sew it on with invisible thread. For the closed zipper sections, two strands of this chain side-by-side, sewn together, will be only...

    MAD MAX/ROAD WARRIOR Customs

Yes, it would be tedious- which is why I'm going to try having the zippers laser-cut in aluminum first. With laser-cutting, I can have them make open zipper edges and closed/zipped section too, for the pockets. I could make the designs myself in Photoshop, and include the pull-tabs at the ends...

    MAD MAX/ROAD WARRIOR Customs

I haven't seen the new FR sculpt, but I'm not a huge fan of the reboot anyway. The Iris zipper doesn't look absolutely terrible, but it's still double the size it should be. I'm aiming for perfectly scaled zippers, which is why I have no intention of making them functional. I think if I can...
