They went out with a bang all right, and IMO dethroned Netflix DD as the best comic book series ever.

This show did an amazing job of making me change who I was rooting for from episode to episode, sometimes from scene to scene! Colin Farrell and Cristin Milioti were fantastic!

I can't believe how well they nailed every element of this series. Even freaking kid Penguin was awesome!

And it's not even an MCU joke. "They come in red???" is like a meta-marketing joke from a Joel Schumacher film. "I'm a lover, not a fighter, which is why every Sharon Carter action figure comes with a Red Hulk!"

They should have had this be Thunderbolts versus Red Hulk with no Mackie Cap anywhere in sight. They really screwed up what they could have had by splitting them into two separate films.

I think you are conflating "average SW fan" (kids and adults from the very beginning) with "obsessive diehard fan" (us who yes, had these films imprint on our DNA since childhood.) All of our parents enjoyed SW when it came out because it *did* cater to them as well as us, the difference is that...
