This also happened to me but I had to smash mine up and got a full replacement. Thankfully I was able to save a few extra parts and the box and shipper from the first so I have quite a few spare parts.

Yer I was actually thinking of doing something similar to this or even use a glue gun for the strands. I wasn't sure how the glue later down the line would react if adding it direct. I will have a ponder before deciding which to do.
