Hot Toys The Dark Knight Joker DX/Artisan 1/6 Scale Figure

FWIW, I've got no problem with folks pushing for greater accuracy because it's absolutely true that that's how the hobby moves forward. My contention, however, is that in pursuit of perfection, we often lose perspective. Anyone saying that InArt or the DX32/33 are bad, unimpressive, etc. are...

Hot Toys The Dark Knight Joker DX/Artisan 1/6 Scale Figure

InArt did a great job, and there are things they've still done better -- the rooting, the hands -- but I look at it now and all I see is a first figure; they've already improved leaps and bounds with Gandalf, Aragorn, and the rest to where their Joker doesn't even really meet InArt standards...

Hot Toys The Dark Knight Joker DX/Artisan 1/6 Scale Figure

Look, taste is subjective, and that subjectivity is further colored by the fact that these things cost a lot of money, so there's self-interest in "defending" the version you've personally invested in... And that's not even considering the additional confounding factors of bad feelings towards...

InArt - The Batman 1/6th Figure

I'm gonna be one of the last to come out because I bought it days before it dropped off the website, but that's fine by me. Gives me more time to scrounge together funds...

InArt: The Lord of the Rings - Aragorn 1:6

I wonder how much of it is that the sculpted hair throws shadows on the face, whereas the rooted hair lets the light through? All the reviewers I've seen do a comparison swear up and down that it's the exact same, but I agree there's a lot of variability in pictures.

The day we stop getting 1/6 Ledger Jokers is the day the sun explodes, killing us all, and maybe not even then. 🤣

Unironically, though. The wonders of competition! Only downside is the increasing prices, but that was going to happen regardless, so at least we're getting more for our money.

I love that base. Simple but effective. I'll have to figure out my wiring so I can run USB to my display.

Definitely a better hairline. Also better styling and color, though we've seen from InArt at least that that could be very variable from sculpt to sculpt, so we'll see if HT can achieve more consistency.

Hot Toys The Dark Knight Joker DX/Artisan 1/6 Scale Figure

I only wish they would've included gloveless hands like InArt so we could vary the looks up, but alas. They've always gotta leave something for the 2.0, I guess. 🤣 Regardless, Hot Toys have come a long way since I started 5 years ago. It can be argued that it shouldn't have taken this long --...

Will have to see a proper in-hand comparison, but this seems to confirm some hairline tweaking and a less grainy paintjob. I'm pleased!

Agreed, the shadowbox shots of this really pop.

My big thoughts just based on these shots are: 1. The jacket seems a bit oversized. Would've liked the tailoring to be a bit sharper. 2. The hairline looks ever so slightly improved from the prototype and even the Imposter version? Not as accurate as InArt's, but I welcome the modification...

InArt: The Lord of the Rings - Nazgul 1:6

Oh, I know I am, but my collection is also just slowing down in general. Could pick up once we start getting the new DCU movies, but I'm over the MCU and my Star Wars collection will be pretty complete once I have Han & Chewie. Having fewer figures coming in has made it easier to justify the...

InArt: The Lord of the Rings - Legolas 1:6

I definitely don't disagree that InArt is sniffing their own farts just a bit, but I guess that's marketing for you. Still, despite their flaws, I still feel like I'm getting a premium product. For example: I've never once paused to admire Hot Toys hands, whereas I was marvelling at the grimy...

InArt: The Lord of the Rings - Legolas 1:6

I admit that I'm not as much of a detail hound as others in this hobby, but I find the errors incredibly minor. Nothing on the level of needing a 2.0, at least for my collection.

InArt: The Lord of the Rings - Legolas 1:6

Oh, to be clear, I don't own any Asmus stuff. I agree with the recommendation, though; it's always easier to upgrade because the sale of the old figure defrays the cost. I was just arguing from the perspective of someone who had to decide whether to buy-in at Asmus or InArt prices on Legolas...

InArt: The Lord of the Rings - Legolas 1:6

I agree with the sentiment that these InArt LOTR offerings feel definitive. Legolas maybe slightly less so with the puzzling omission of the Mirkwood accessories -- and his pauldron is cool but obviously wouldn't fit the Fellowship license. But even those aren't enough to make me feel like I...

InArt: The Lord of the Rings - Legolas 1:6

Because everything in this hobby occurs at the intersection of quality and value. As you said, if quality was the sole overriding factor, we'd all be custom collectors; instead, we collect mass market figures because we all have an internal calculus of how much we're willing to commit on a...

InArt: The Lord of the Rings - Aragorn 1:6

The Dawn method worked a treat, by the way. Great shout! Now all I'll need is a new scabbard, and I'll be in mint condition.
