    Hot Toys Sandtrooper MMS 295

Completed my backpack conversion to one used by a black pauldron trooper. Standard on the left, modified on the right- .

    Show Us Your Troops (Sideshow/Marmit/Medicom/etc.)!

My plan is to break the lid of the helmet then cut/sand out the existing brow piece. Once everything is smooth I'll reattach the lid and fill the seam with gap-filling superglue. From there a quick repaint and a new brow piece should wrap it up**. I'm not sure what I'll use for the brow...

That looks great! What did you use to remove the weathering? I have a spare sandtrooper helmet on the way on which I'll try and move the brow piece down. Now I'm going to have to strip the weathering too. Brent

"...because I didn't think I could just build one from scratch and make it look like the real thing." Well, you sure as hell did make it look like the real thing! It totally captures the essence and sets up an out-flippin'-standing display. And LEDS always make things that much cooler! :clap...

Argh!! Outstanding work solo_bones, now I have to build a vaporater of my own. :bow Did you start with any plans/dimensions, or did you just eyeball it? brentce

I have extreme Dewback Envy. A squad of sandtroopers just don't look complete without a dewback in there somewhere. :( Brent

Great pic's everyone, this guy is just amazing! Still, I can't resist doing some mods. :) I'm converting the pack to the MEPD "pack #4" configuration for a black pauldron-ed corporal. Here's the trooper I'm going for from MEPD.net: . . The pack broken down and drilled out to swap component...

    Hot Toys Sandtrooper MMS 295

Here's a quick (out of focus) pic- the famous Hoth Sandtrooper. :) I used some poster tape on the shoulder bell to get it drape like that. brentce

    Hot Toys Sandtrooper MMS 295

I didn't like the black-ish overspray, looks like it's been hanging around a greasy motor pool instead of the desert. :) The orange matches the prorotype better with the weathering removed. ...and in fact I did remove some of the armor weathering and am adding some of my own, mostly so that I...

The padding is really rigid and prevents the pauldron from laying over the shoulder. To my eye it looks more authenticate without the padding, but it's just a personal preference. brentce

    Hot Toys Sandtrooper MMS 295

Mine came today. :yess: A couple of quick observations: I don't find the pack to be particulary fragile. There's a bit of flex in the middle but that's about it. The pauldron's weathering can be cleaned up with a mild paint remover, I used Gunze-Sangyo Mr. Paint Remover. Acetone will work if...

I think the SSC backpacks and pauldrons will fit right in with a HT sandtrooper display. Both are really excellent. .

    Hot Toys Sandtrooper MMS 295

I think The SSC packs are really, really nice and not flimsy at all. The accurate frame and the frame's angle on the HT version are more accurate, but for sure conribute to any flimisness over the SSC. Mine should be here Tuesday (my birthday)!!

    Hot Toys Sandtrooper MMS 295

I think that's scale fidelity, not flimsiness! :) The frame on the SS and Marmit versions are molded as a solid plate while HT went with the correct (and to scale) tubular frame. The only way for the frame not to be flimsy would be to mold it more thickly than would be accurate, or to solder...

    Hot Toys Sandtrooper MMS 295

Well, that's not ideal. :( Not unexpected though since if it was flexible, moving it would expose the joint between the upper and lower helmet parts.
