Honestly, I couldn't give you a specific reason, I just didn't enjoy reading it. I can tell you which writers I think are great: Dan Simmons, Iain M. Banks, Neil Gaiman, Anne Leckie, N. K. Jemisin, Brian Aldiss... All are just wonderful to read, and their books are fantastic.
