I agree that it looks like a best of / greatest hits compilation, and I am not a fan of the design of the alien (so far), but it looks really well done. Also, it seems a sincere "homage" to the franchise, made with true heart and passion. Highly doubtful it'll be a classic like Alien or Aliens...

Well, to be fair, even Giger thought they were silly design-wise and got rid of them on his design for the Alien 3 creature. IIRC, he said he included them to balance the elongated head and further break up the human silhouette, but that ultimately they didn't make much sense.

Yeah... not a fan of this design. It's an odd amalgamation of earlier designs, isn't it? The head has a this AvP-R vibe going on, with the large side opening on the mouth, the arms are very Big Chap-esque, the legs look AvP, the feet a mix of AvP and Aliens, the hands look AvP again, the chest...
