Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

Nitpicking? it looks halfassed!

I will wait and see if they do any changes or improvements to this figure, but currently right now it looks nothing like weaver. The eyes, the mouth, no likeness at all. It's too much of caricature. The dc and marvel stuff they have done lately all have good sculpts so it makes no sense for this sculpt to look this poorly done. I will reserve final judgement till the end but i find it strange anyone can say that this looks good.

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

once again, you should all go and see alien 1979 movie. see the movie, in movement, not google photos online. the last sculpt is the closest, all previous are awful.

Ive seriously been meaning to do this. I believe that is the only way to make an accurate comparison

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

I have seen Alien (1979) and I can say from what I have seen this figure is nit Ellen Ripley. A resculpt is the only option, they keep making changes but the changes haven't done anything. It just feels like they don't care for the Alien Ripley.

It seems fate is conspiring against me to make the post I really want to make but basically - they've all fallen short. The 'middle sculpt' was the best of an overall bad bunch. And even the middle sculpt didn't nail it.

I just watched it last nite as a matter of fact, the 03 director cut blur ray. There are ELEMENTS of her in all sculpts but I still think, that to me, personally from as many angles as I look at it, the one below remains my personal close fave. The current iteration of the sculpt has those certain A1 'elements' but it really does depend on what angle and light and what feature you focus on. Many times Ripley's blank stare when listening to Dallas when he's in the vent, her eyes are in this current, iteration for sure. Less in the previous.

this one's still my fave, hair and all. Just seems to capture the best 'general' likeness from most angles, again my opinion YMMV. Yes it's more chisled in the cheeks and jawline but overall those are elements I can look past.

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

Yeah that one had the best weaver likeness but it wasn't alien 1 weaver unfortunately. The jaw is a little too square and the overall appearance was more alien 2 weaver. It was def weaver though at least. The new one isn't. Yeah they really need to go back to that second sculpt and just tweak it.

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

That was the sculpt that caught my attention to the idea of Ripley in my collection. The pre order one is catching my attention of getting V2 SS Bossk and Dengar instead!

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

I doubte they'll be doing anymore tweaking of the sculpt. The orders are in and they have 3000 or more heads to get custom hand painted before the end of the year. Be really surprised if another iteration makes an appearance before then.

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

As any other has said, likeness on this gigure depends on the pose and the light you are applying to it. I think we are all specultaing too much, even asking to much to this figure, may be because we all love sigourney but I really see her in certain posses. Not always of course but also in other figures considered perfect figures like will smith, figures are not identical to the actor/actress. Even with the las SW HT figures or BTTF...When I look at them I think that they are awesome but if I want, I can find differences too between the and the original avtors aswell.the reason why I do not is because I am not the fan num 1 of this movies although I like them alot.with Alien/s, my glfauvorite movies ever, my level of exigence is higher and I know it and thats why I know that the figure looks nice even as never will be as nice as sigourney weaver looks:) thinking like this I will enjoy better the figure next to my new warrior and the others:) I understand the rest but this is just my opinion:)I'll give a chance to ripley.

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

Convention photos never do these items any real justice, remember HT Bespin Luke y'all???

Folks were jumping out windows over that one, then.. all was fine.. even if it looks like pre car accident Hamill. :lol

You're saying she might look better in hand?

Okay, what have you done with the real VintijDroidGutzz? And how much ransom do we have to pay to get him back? :lol

(Or are you his good natured clone, Vintage Droid Guts?)

I've already paid for this Ripley in full, so I've got to remain positive. Figures generally do look better when you have them, and you pose them in a manner that hides any weaknesses.

And, no, that doesn't include putting a bag over her head.

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

I'm ok with it. :huh :lol

I do agree that the early sculpt with the toilet brush hair was better, but what'ya do.

This is the best we're getting in 1/6 scale I imagine, so I'm in. I just hate that they treated Jonsey like a Kinder-surpise afterthought.

:rotfl

It's hard keeping with who likes this one, since she's gone through several revisions.

What's really confusing is that P. likes it. And P. rarely likes anything. :lol

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

Look, you know what? At this point in time, we've gotta pick our battles.

I think that HT' use of questionable materials, their longevity, & what they include (or don't) with their sets now, is a far more troubling thing than how perfect the details are.

You spend $300+ on one of their dolls, you want some value & quality.

Longevity is a big one.

It's the reason I couldn't even think of buying an Alien Warrior.

it's more that i strongly dislike two other variants as they don't fit 1979 Weaver at all, so earth is still on its orbit, everything's fine :lol
though the photo above really looks much better:

:clap

I think Ripley's going to be like a Sideshow release: she'll look good on display regardless of how she looks in photos.

Re: Hot Toys: Ellen Ripley - Alien (Updated with new prototype HS)

It's a shame they didn't go with that head sculpt, but maybe they're saving that for '79 Ripley v2. :gah:
