Now that I am home and can compare these pics to the ANH Chewie, this does look like a nice step up over the original.

Problem is it's impossible to predict what the final product will be like, as the previous Chewies ended up looking nothing whatsoever like the proto pics.

I would hope HT learned something in the last 9 years since the original. If nothing else, they've grown accustom to hairing now.

If this goes up for PO one of my ANH Chewies will probably get a snow day.

Snow-covered is such an iconic look for Chewie (oddly, one of the most memorable images from Hoth) but you'd want to go carefully as snow is so easy to make look bad in 1/6. Going to use my custom Taun as a testing ground for snow effects now that my other biggie the Dewback is finished.

It's a very good point. As reality check, here's how the ANH proto looked a decade ago when announced.

It's still coming as far as I know. It's just a bit more of a Mando Dewback look to me (despite the headsculpt tweak etc) and I wanted a somewhat stricter ANH/1976/Fred Pearl version, so made one.

I'm still mulling the HT version to place that updated more chrome Mando on it.

Head looks to be a decent improvement over the ANH Chewie, but not a massive leap forward - zoomed in, the face still looks a bit funky (a bit doggy), but at least it's a step up over the ANH version rather than a noticeable step down like the awful TFA version was.

Will be interesting to see any proto vs production drop with so much applied fur in the mix on the face.

Excited to see if this is a new full 3PO that's ESB style or if its just a "solid" backpack 3PO accessory (that can't be assembled) with limited articulation.

And does this mean a run of ESB figs, or is it a one-off?

No way is that an improvement on ANH head sculpt….looks like Chewy has eaten a few too many burgers….proportions way off…

Would love a non-backpack version. Hot Toys have become sooooo expensive I'm pretty much priced out. I'd make an exception for a cheaper version of this!
