I haven't been able to tell from the photos I've seen.. Are the "ear" pieces vents? Or are they solid pieces?

There's something about the neck I don't like, seems a bit too long. But it definitely looks like an awesome figure. I'm going to wait for the 46.

I think the neck is a bit longer than a standard iron man suit, as the traps are lower, closer to the shoulders. I believe this is because the 45 is a bit more form fitting, which I love, but it's not for everyone. I personally really like the 46 but believe it's going a bit in the opposite direction in terms of design evolution. Like how the 42/43 got way too mechanical and blocky compared to the sleek mark 4 type armours.

I really don't like the flame effects. They make it look like a 'toy'.. Yet why am I using Thors lightning and will use Scarlets magic effects? :lol

Not only do I concur but so did Ryan Meindering when designing the 45&46. In the Art of books, they clearly state that they broke up the lines on the 46 with all the mini RT's to both pay homage to the bleeding edge armor and they wanted to keep the tech that the Mk. 42 introduced but more refined. It was really funny to read because you can tell they are obviously talking about the comic armors and how much they ****ed up Exremis in IM3 and the bleeding edge science hasn't been introduced properly in the MCU. Basically they designed the 46 to look both grounded in IM3 armor tech and to appreciate the style of the BE armor.

I think it's nice that they're included, but I wish there was a way to make them look more realistic.

Maybe we'll see a better paint job on them at some point. I think they should skip the translucent-ish plastic. Unrealtoys' photo makes them look pretty good, I wish they were painted that way. In the movie, they're like white with an orange glow. I wonder if they could replicate that somehow. Maybe an inner white flame piece with a clear flame shaped cap around the end of it?.. I don't know. Replicating the look on screen just seems difficult.

Like I said, it's nice that they're included, and I'll probably use them for flying poses on occasion.

Yes. Exactly. I very much appreciate the homage to bleeding edge that the MK46 has, and it felt like they were listening to what fans didn't like about the 42/43. I also never understood why Tony thought having the suit assemble exclusively in multiple parts was "more advanced" than just having it come to him all together, something he actually did in that same movie with the MK7 and multiple other suits. Luckily the 43 had the option to do it either way.

P.S. Did Ryan Meinerding help design the 45? I thought that was all Phil Saunders?

I think maybe he didn't want to have to take around a big suit with him wherever he went. I think the 42/43 are an advancement over the mark 5. The pieces are much smaller when they're not on tony. Each of them are able to fly individually and obey his physical commands, so he doesn't need to carry around a suitcase, and they're flight capable and include weapons unlike the mark 5.

Plus, the separation aspect did save his life by pulling him out of the rubble under water.

I think the 42/43 was a combination of both, and that's why it was more advanced. It could be summoned in pieces, or as a whole.

:exactly: It also allows him to swap out parts that break, a predecessor to what we saw in AoU with Veronica and Hulkbuster.

so true, i didn't even think about that aspect of it. i think it's safe to say that the 42 ushered in a lot of possibilities.

Probably, lol, Art of Book snob, j/k. I think Ryan is like the head of the whole costume/design department so he's quoted saying things all the time.

Ryan is a concept artist/illustrator. He's not a designer. And not in charge of the costume or prop department, in any way. On the first two iron man films he just illustrated others ideas. In iron man 3 he did some concept work (he also wrote the art of IM3 book..) and things like that...but he more or less just drew what others said and took guidance from the people who did have control over the suits.

Right! Exactly what Motux said!

Anyways, you all see the suit designs for Cap in the Art of CW book? They almost incorporated his "scale armor" in a more modern look but blamed the lack of it being that they weren't comfortable with the complex geometry on the scales and how it lined up. I think there are 2 concepts of that suit in the book and it looked totally amazing. I think they pretty much nailed it in those illustrations but the Feigster said, "looks great, we'll incorporate it into his next suit" for the BP movie. New Vibranium shield to go with his new Vibranium scale armor.

I guess off topic a bit but this is where the real cool stuff comes out :faq

thank you for the info.

No problem. If an IM HT releases with a set of batteries that doesn't usually conform to the generic load out of 9-AG1's/3-AG3's (LR392) or 3-AG9's (LR936) then I usually state it on the official thread. AG3's and AG9's were mostly used on the older Marks and some of the HPP line that have highly illuminated LED's in the chest that power rear thruster lights and/or have for the chest and surrounding lights in that area (Mk. 3, 4, 6, 7, Heartbreaker, Tank, Shotgun, Starboost, etc. I rarely comment as everyone seems to have plenty of those standards. But I was definitely surprised to see HT go AG0 for the forearms, those are small, very weak batteries.

Oh and thanks for the heads up, I need to order some more AG1's (can never have too many). By the way, some suits come loaded with 12-AG1's all around too! You never know really till you see the batteries included, don't use and keep a better, non leaking brand on hand like me :bow

he is magnificent!!
