yea it's pretty cute that she reportedly takes the doll everywhere and calls it "Smalls"

I have nothing against the actress and glad that she's enjoyed playing the part. Her version of Kara just wasnt' for me. I guess this is how ppl felt about Cavill when they saw MoS and/or BvS, though
Wow, that is cool that she has that figure and carries it around etc. nice that she can have fun with this whole thing.

Luckily for me (as I stated before) I don't no much about DC lore outside of Batman so I have no preconceived ideas about how Kara should look or what type of behavior makes sense for her character. I am happy for the clean slate.

Now that you mention it, I do remember some people did not like Cavill as Superman in MOS. Personally I think he has been great in the role and felt to me like "yeah that's Superman. Even though I didn't particularly like BvS or Justice League (first version), I have always though Cavill was well cast. But of course such things are subjective, but it does seem like Cavill has won most people over as Superman.

It is too bad this movie is doing such poor numbers, it does make it less likely that this Supergirl character will be explored/developed in the near future in film and less likely that we will get a Hot Toys figure of her …but I do think there is hope.

Well there's always a chance the strong sales and interest in the other Flash figures will be enough for HT to go forward with Supergirl too. Since I'm sure they realize a lot of collectors will want to complete that team from the movie.

Not to mention of course the pure *** appeal, which is something I don't think the Shazam figure really had going for it. ;)

Well, the Keaton Batman should sell well. The Affeck Batman may be less so. The Flash looks good, a definite upgrade over the JL version. Not sure how that will sell. We are definitely not getting Dark Flash, or Flash in recolored Batsuit for sure.

The Batman fans are pretty fanatic so Hot Toys knows that they would have a built-in customer base for just that character.

DC fans in general may not wish to pick up the enter ensemble, especially at the prices that these figures are now at.

After the bloodbath known as the second weekend, I think I will adjust my expectations on this figure being open for PO. I hope we all get surprised, but I don’t want to hold out hope and get disappointed. I really hope I get surprised!

I don't mean to be a negative nancy but we're never seeing this version of Supergirl ever again in any form. Like you, I'm happy to be proven wrong

Since when has box office performance been tied to Hot Toys releasing figures?

They’ve still made figures for plenty of licenses which have movies that haven’t done particularly well.

I understand them not making the figure given the disaster at the box office. It's the tease of 'this is what you could have had' that's so frustrating.

Just stop doing teasers Hot Toys.

Yes especially for WW 84 and Birds of prey or Black Adam, but WW and Harley are really popular and iconic like the Rock is popular...and for the last SS only King Shark was realised not Harley. But with DC Hot toys don't really have any logic, Aquaman is the is the biggest hit, and there's only one figure from the movie.

I want to believe that Hot Toys will make it happen but the movie bombed hard :

  • Aquaman : 1,148,528,393 $
  • Batman v Superman : l'aube de la justice : 873,637,528 $
  • Wonder Woman : 822,854,286 $
  • Suicide Squad : 746,846,894 $
  • Man of Steel : 668,045,518 $
  • Justice League : 657,926,987 $
  • Black Adam : 393,252,111 $
  • Shazam ! : 367,799,011 $
  • The Flash : 210,944,000 $
  • Birds of Prey : 205,372,791 $
  • Wonder Woman 1984 : 169,601,036 $
  • The Suicide Squad : 168,717,425 $
  • Shazam ! La Rage des dieux : 133,783,006 $

The figure business is dependent on 1 thing and 1 thing only: IP or licenses. Figure manufacturers horde IPs like no tomorrow. They acquire lots and lots of licenses in the hope that they increase name recognition of their brand and increase the chance of landing on a hit franchise thus ensuring success products and revenue for years to come.

But acquiring licenses is only the beginning, how many figures to make per license is more of an art than a science. There is a huge lead time between license acquisition and product announcements. That’s where popularity and name recognition of the licenses come in. HT needs to make a leap of faith on which licenses will be a (huge) hit and which ones will turn into a bust by assessing market trends and past history. They then allocate resources to develop figures for that license. If the license is deemed a likely success, more figures will enter development. If the franchise is deemed a bust, then they will invest in one figure (Aquaman, Morbius) or no figure at all (Shazam).

Popular figures like Iron Man, Spider-Man, Batman, Black Widow, Wonder Woman & Harley Quinn are no brainers. DCEU is a lot harder to judge which licenses will be a hit or a bust due its highly uneven history. The Flash was likely assessed as a likely successful license given its cast and plot initially. So it is a lot easier to see HT make only the title character of an unpopular license than for them to make a figure for a supporting character with limited screen time in an unpopular license (like this Supergirl)

I guess the only saving grace as some have pointed is *** appeal. HT has never attempted a Supergirl fig before and the suit does present a challenge to the HT development team. But she is a secondary character from an unpopular license. *sigh*

Maybe Overthinking, Rather Biased Information Unless Speculative.

Edit: That joke was too much of a stretch 🤦‍♂️

I wouldn’t mind Hot Toys “accidentally” leaving their prototype at a factory and it makes it way to SooSoo Toys.

I thought her performance was fine, but it didn't fully connect with me, either. As with all things in this movie, the terrible garbage CG didn't help, but the Supergirl in my "head canon" is pre-Crisis Supergirl from the comics. They can change hair or skin color, but being so damn moody, and not having a skirt is not good. Also disappointing that there were no Super Pets. Comet, Streaky, Beppo, any would have worked.

One other thing that struck me about her in the movie was when Flash was trying to replicate the creation of his powers. She is gone to see Zod when he starts. She comes back after his first attempt, and somehow intuitively knows what he is trying to do and how to do it? I know she has super hearing, but c'mon. Putting it in a realistic context where she isn't psychic it seems as if she is trying to murder the poor guy by electrocuting him.

On top of that, there are no chemicals around when he gets struck the second time. I guess you could argue that the chemicals were in his system but the initial lightning strike wasn't enough, but that's a bit of a stretch.

Yeah kinda feels like there was a lot of Supergirl stuff that got cut out of that initial 4 hour runtime that would have fleshed out the character a lot better. And I know I definitely would have preferred if the movie spent more time with her and less with the two Barrys.

Haven't had a chance to see the movie yet, and I've been trying to steer clear of spoilers (although I'm not too bothered)... is the movie really that bad? Apparently the CGI is atrocious.

It's great, and easily the best of the DC Snyderverse films. The less than perfect CG in spots didn't phase me.

Topping Flash's ZSJL moment is a tall order for me. It has some unexpectedly touching parts and character work that flows really well, but I think that the story is a testament to just how misaligned the pre-Gunn/Safran DCEU connected narrative is. Regardless, I had fun watching it with my mother.

Unfortunately, this is a Flash movie and not a Supergirl movie, so we are stuck with the two Barrys in this one (which I’m okay with). The original DCEU Supergirl movie got scrapped after Batgirl got scrapped, I think? For the new DCU Supergirl movie, there is no word on Calle returning.

I sometimes wonder if they are going to put back the original ending as a deleted scene in the eventual home media release? That’s where her line “Are you ready?” in the TV commercials came from.

I watched some of the figure bloggers discussions on this figure tease and those participants were enthusiastic (duh!) about this being announced. We can only hope! Someone may have been reading the tea leaves too much by pointing out that the Supergirl tease did not include the fine print “Prototype shown. Final product pending licensor approval” which was on the Shazam tease…
