Re: Palpatine Image Thread

One of my problems with the Hasbro figure's clothing is that light enters the material very easily. When I did my custom, I had to sew in a second layer inside the hood to keep the light out. Also, the hem at the bottom is far too short. The robe underneath is pretty good, although the sleeves are too short there, too.

Ya, I noticed that last night with the light, though I lucked out and camera flash didn't show through, but my room light was coming in as I was setting him up.

Having the Palps set in hand now, and having seen the Emperor bust's hood, I know an SSC Emperor from Jedi would have a more accurrate robe material, the hood would be cut normal instead of matching the awkward hunchback of Notre Dame effect, and the overall shape and such would be fitting, and the cane more accurate in scale. It'll be great to have them do it some day, but for the impatient, you can get decent mileage out of Hasbro's setup.

Re: Palpatine Image Thread

So pissing wonderful.... How did you get all those layers off of him? (by the way, it was Palpatine I had problems with getting in to the Hasbro. Do you think you'll try some TPM shots in the Hasbro robe Sean?). :joy

Probably, it didn't show in my Palpatine shots for the last set, but I stuffed tissue into his sleeves to fatten the shoulders and when I put the Hasbro Emperor robe on it looked a little silly, so I'll probaby have to take the tissue out to do my stills of that. While I have the heads swapped I might do some pre-deformed, robed Sidious shots with Maul and Dooku. I'm not sure what layers you're referring to, Sidious or the Hasbro Emperor, but either way, I had not issue removing the clothing.

I have a question for my fellow Sidious owners. Do you guys find subtle lines running through his cheek areas, almost like cuts, probably something from the manufacturing process, I noticed them on mine, it's not major persay, but if I've got an anomaly I might look into replacement but if that's status quo then that's ok.

You can see what I mean on the left cheek under his eye in this shot.

Re: Palpatine Image Thread

For what its worth, my Sidious does not have that cut under his left eye.

Re: Palpatine Image Thread

Guess the stills will wait then, I'll contact Sideshow about a replacement later, see what happens there.

Re: Palpatine Image Thread

I noticed that too... Michael Crawford's figure had one under his lip. Now yours... I hope mine doesn't.... :monkey2

Hmm, I hadn't noticed that. Guess I'll have to sit on this one then, cuz if I replace it, there's a chance of getting a worse one as much as better, I'll have to see how much it does or doesn't bother me. It's pretty subtle in hand and most of my pictures have hidden it, that's why I wanted to ask because if others had it, presumably their photos would also hide it. I wonder how nicks like that happen.

Re: Palpatine Image Thread

To tell you the truth Sean, I kinda like it.

Ya, I may stick it out, if my local comic shop gets the pack, I'll probably give it glance over and see how it looks, but I'm thinking I won't take the gamble. In hand it almost seems like just more aging work on him, there are similar, more subtle marks on the right side and they almost look purposeful.

Re: Palpatine Image Thread

FedEx just delivered mine!
I gotta say guys, this figures are just AMAZING!!
Old Ben is still the best though...
Sidious is awesome, the texture, the colors, the robes, just beautiful!! :emperor
Palpatine is great too, the likeness is the best of this figure.
The robes looks great and the texture is nice, But I still think
they should've used more contrast between the outer robe
and the inside clothes.
I think this is my third favourite Sidesho Star Wars figures
behind Old Ben and Maul.

It's from the individual Palpatine figure from Hasbro. It certainly isn't great, and I still hope to see SSC do it, but with some quick customizing it can look pretty decent. If you just took it off the Hasbro figure and put it on Sidious, even with water treatment, it's not going to look so great. I took some thread and stictch the 2 corners of the hood opening to the chest of the robe, and then I stitched 2 points in the back of the hood down to the shoulders to shape it as close to ROTJ as you can with the hood's design.

I see, great, thanks for the tips, I'm waiting for my Hasbro Palps, I got him on Ebay for 2 bucks! It sure looks great inf your pics!!

Re: Palpatine Image Thread

Oooooh...Shiny Palpatine figures...

Those ones of ROTJ are pretty amazing...

Re: Palpatine Image Thread

just got my palpatine set and wow! that's three stellar figures in a row from ss (old ben, palpatine, sidious). looks like they do old men as well as aliens and zombies. what an outstanding set. you can tell a lot of work went into the figures and they turned out (like ben) as nice looking as the proto pics. tons of stuff also which is cool. now ss just needs to do his chair.

Re: Palpatine Image Thread

I would love for SS to offer a polystone throne expansion pack when they do their ROTJ Sidious.:emperor:cool:
