Last night I finally made time to unbox my ThreeZero Green Ranger I picked up last month for $84 from Sideshow Seconds and found it interesting to compare it to my existing Ace Toyz version. See below for some side-by-side photos (Ace Toyz on the left, ThreeZero on the right), but here are some key differences I noticed between the two:

  • The ThreeZero figure overall is noticeably taller and slimmer than the Ace Toyz version, making the Ace Toyz look chunky in comparison.
  • The ThreeZero figure has a noticeable white neck coming out of the top of the shield, which looks way better than how this area looks on the Ace Toyz.
  • The shape and angles of the ThreeZero shield are much more accurate and has a nicer looking, shinier appearance than the Ace Toyz.
  • The weapons are much more detailed and better looking on the ThreeZero version, and apparently its morpher on the belt is more accurate than the Ace Toyz.
  • The Ace Toyz figure is actually more accurate with its larger, more noticeable emblems on the four corners on the front of the shield.
  • The gold bands on the biceps are much thicker on the Ace Toyz figure than the ThreeZero.
  • The paint on the ThreeZero helmet is much shinier than the Ace Toyz, which has a matte paint look.
  • The white on the Ace Toyz's hands, gauntlets, boots, and feet are intentionally made to look dirty like in the original show, but I prefer the cleaner, pure white appearance of these areas on the ThreeZero version.
  • It was actually easier to get the Ace Toyz figure's hands and dagger into a better looking version of the classic "playing the flute" pose, and I think the included hands for that specific pose are better looking in the Ace Toyz version.
  • The ThreeZero figure's body and joints are MUCH better than the Ace Toyz version- I can easily get him stand on his own without using a stand because his ankle joints aren't extremely floppy, his neck joint also isn't extremely floppy and will hold whatever pose I put it in, and I didn't break any wrist pegs changing hands multiple times like I did with Ace Toyz's crappy pegs!
Overall, both figures look nice on the shelf, but side by side, the ThreeZero figure (unsurprisingly) is clearly a better figure, and I prefer how it looks to the Ace Toyz version.

With all that said, anyone in the market for an Ace Toyz Green Ranger 1/6 scale figure? :sneaky:

I just got the Red Ranger in the mail but I'm conflicted-- does he have shelf presence by his own? I'm still not sure if I should get the whole set (mostly due to space rather than price) so I haven't unbox the single Ranger yet in case I change my mind and get the whole set instead. If he looks good alone I definitely will keep him! What do fellow owners of these figures think?

Threezero's figure does take some more work to get the hands in position for the flute but the joints will actually allow you to get something that looks a little bit more accurate in the end.

Whoa! Both of your guys' flute poses are way better than mine! Apparently I need to mess with my figure some more tonight to try to replicate them!

My best suggestion is to just take time and work with the figure and learn how the articulation can be used. It's something I go through with every new 1/6 because features like gauntlets, body differences, etc. mean each figure has it's limits and ways it can be posed that may not be the same as another.

Also, look at reference.

Notice his head is off to the right to varying amounts in all of these.

I don’t have any of the Rangers yet, but personally I feel like Green or maybe White can stand alone and have shelf presence. I feel like the others are best served having the entire team. Otherwise I would get the Blue Ranger as he was my favorite as a kid.

This is the best advice to give. I opened mine for Christmas and I messed around with the articulation for the Blue Ranger for at least an hour or two getting a feel for it. I've been posing him differently every day since then, I haven't even got to the other Rangers. If you get a better understanding of how they operate, you can get some really great poses that you'll love in the end.

Plus, watching Mighty Morphin again while you're posing is a lot of fun too.

Buying only one from the team is like saying if a complete set of 1:6 figures of The Beatles were made then you would only buy one member and skip the rest.

I purchased the complete set and will be buying the Previews exclusives as well.

Given the side by side comparison pictures by cbulas1, I wonder if buyer's remorse is now a reality and being experienced by those who purchased the figures from Ace Toyz?

It certainly is for me, especially since the official (and ultimately superior) figure from ThreeZero was announced just a few months after I received the Ace Toyz version, which itself was after a relatively lengthy pre-order period waiting for it!

That's a tough one. I think a lot of folks who jumped on the Ace Toyz versions probably felt like official 1/6 figures wouldn't happen and were quite surprised to see these revealed.

I think those who will feel the most remorse will be those who purchase Ace shortly before this announcement, but anyone who had them for a good while, or ordered them quite some time before the ThreeZero announcement, will feel like it seemed a good decision at the time.

I'm glad it kept not working out to order the Ace and by the time I could even consider buying them, this was announced. ThreeZero isn't perfect, but it's definitely better.

I never considered or thought I would buy/collect 1:6 Power Rangers from threezero let alone unofficial figures from another brand.

I was never a fan/supporter of threezero due to many "fails" from their other licenses (i.e., GoT, HALO, etc.) and I was skeptical when they got the GI JOE license.

Their Snake Eyes surprised me in terms of design and quality for the price point and I read some good reviews for the Power Rangers figures so I broke down and got the deluxe set of all the figures.

I hope production design and quality is consistent/maintained.

I managed to sell off my Ace Toyz boxed set and Green and White ‘Heroes’ shortly after these were announced which more than covered the cost for my ThreeZero upgrades.
Still haven’t actually opened them yet but it’s on my to do list! So many boxed figures that I want to give the adequate time to but I always seem to end up doing something else!

Anyways, MMPR Movie suits when?!

Two minimum is my general rule of thumb. I personally don't think you need the entire team for even this but at least 2-3.

My goal is to have Red + Green or Red, Green and White together. I dumped $60 into the Green Ranger today from Sideshow so hopefully that comes in next week. Will grab Red and White in the future.

I only have green/pink and that's good enough besides the upcoming white t e and eventual armored red when ever get comes into stock.
