This is a new Netflix series that premiered on Friday, based on the novel of the same name.

I had never heard of the book before, but the series caught my eye this weekend. And after the first episode, I was committed to seeing it the end. It's a very dark series (and not one recommended for children), and while this particular story is fiction, it's based on a real issues that affect not only youth, but even adults. For some of you, this series may 'hit close to home' because it did for me. My best friend committed suicide almost 5 years ago. Things changed forever after that day. In some ways, I could relate to the feelings these characters were experiencing. Watching this was almost therapeutic in some ways because I could relate. I normally don't get very personal here and I don't intend to anymore than I have already, but watching this, compelled me to post about this show. I really admire what the show has done for bringing these issues to light. It's not for the feint of heart, but it really highlights the realization of just how much your words and actions can have on people. And for some, it changes their life forever.
If you've seen the show or read the book, I encourage you to post your thoughts.
