Just finished RT and Zatanna: https://flickr.com/photos/21242421@N04/

Zatanna: Power Girl base body, slight re-painting, straight black wig with bangs. Costume handstitched except for fishnets boots.

Red Tornado: Lex Luthor base body, sanded and painted head, handsewn costume with iron-on decals and vinyl trim. Took forever but happy with how he turned out. Next time will do the updated JLA costume.

Very impressive! I especially like your Red Tornado! Very nicely done - probably even better than what DC could ever come up with!

Can you describe some of the development you used in making the Red Tornado costume? It looks great and I would like to make some costumes of my own.

Did a basic body suit based on the 13" Superman. Spandex stretches and is very forgiving, so you don't have to have exact measurements. Then designed and printed out the emblem on T-shirt transfer paper (inkjet printer), using the transfers for dark t-shirts. Cut it out and ironed it onto the suit, using a pillowcase between iron and spandex to keep it from scorching. Practiced this a few times first.

Made a boot pattern, stitched together and re-used the soles from the base figure (Lex Luthor). Used yellow vinyl for gauntlets, gloves, boot trim and head arrow. Sanded Lex's face for a more 'robotic' look, then painted using good quality acrylics (the self-leveling kind).

Megomuseum.com has a great customs section with tutorials, and if you have any questions or get stuck, feel free to msg me and I'll help if I can.

Thanks, it looks as if you've put a lot of thought and detail into this. I'll use your insight and try my own customizing on some costumes soon.
