Well, for some reason, it seemed like more people passed away this year than in any one year before.
I thought I'd start a rememberance discussion of our favorites, looking back at how their art and work influenced us and in many cases resulted in many of the things we own that brought us to this site.
Particularly for me I will miss the following folks:
Roy Scheider_____________
You turned a small island town police chief into one of the most memorable, honorable, entertaining and heroic characters in film. I will always remember you as Chief Martin Brody of JAWS, but also will miss you as Captain Nathan Bridger of SeaQuest DSV. You were a kind man, an asset to Hollywood and you will be missed.
Stan Winston_____________
You will always been an unequalled legend in your profession to me. You were responsible for countless creature designs over the decades and have been a huge influence on my own art. Your passion for your craft and the devotion you gave all of your projects was like nothing I'd ever seen, and surely any great creature effect in the past 20 years, people couldn't help but think, must be Stan Winston, and sure enough it would be. You gave me domeless Aliens, THE Predator, the Terminator and the most awesome looking Tyrannosaurus Rex I've ever seen. Creature effects will never be the same without you.
Heath Ledger_____________
I wish I'd have given you a better chance before your passing. I took you for granted, type-casting you as the new Hollywood pretty boy for 2 early roles and your life was over before I could even appreciate fully what you were capable of. The greatest positive to come from your passing has been discovering just what a talent you were. You gave your work a committment beyond so many and had a magic to make characters come alive. Because of you, a movie that would have still wowed me and become a favorite, The Dark Knight, is now something magical and special that I'll always treasure the ability to see and enjoy. You are a great potential that was never fully unleashed, and Hollywood is much lesser with the loss of you.
