Hello everyone! :wave

A few of my gaming buddies and I are working on a service to bring 3D printing to the games we love to play. But we can’t hope to build a great service without the input and feedback from the gaming community.

We’d really like to hear from you.. specifically whether you’d be interested in turning your game character into a real life figurine? What are some of the ways in which you could use such a figurine? Or really any other question that you may have. We’d be happy to hear from you and answer best way we can.

Thanks!

I love 3D printing and will probably buy one at some point when prices come down.

I have only seen it once in person and it was really cool. I would be curious to see what it takes to make a figure though, or even a small 1-2" piece. I have always wanted more pieces from the Doom and Quake video games. Do you have to render the piece from all angles? What is it made out of? Can it be multiple colors? The printer I saw was just making it one color. Imagine if it could create something fully painted...man. I am very curious.

Like the Doom Marine or Quake 3 pieces:

Would this be enough?:

1) This technically would not be a "gaming community", least not the section.:lecture

2) What is meant by "your game character"? Are you referring specifically about "your" as in say the character you play/build/customize as you play? MMOs, your WoW character, Halo's customizing for example in MP. Or just "the" characters the people play? As another thread was asking for interest in a Marcus, Gears of War statue. Or a fighting game line up? :wink1:

3) I could be interested. :)

4) How would I use it? Well, as the "statue" section, I would display it. :cuckoo:

5) As above, I would be concern is materials and colors, etc. I would assume print, sand, and paint. :faq

6) Size? Scale? Personally like 1/4 - 1/3 figures/statues. What about 1:1 bust?:yess:

7) Do you have any examples of previously made ones?:tap

8) Would these be unique, piece on a per customer/request? Or be sold in bulk, editions, etc?

Might run into issues there--there's already some services for printing MMO characters so you'd have to see how you would compete against those services, but for other games you'd run into copyright issues.
