This probably doesn't need a thread, but I have to say, after months of NO LOTR news, this month has been pretty good for us long-suffering LOTR fans. And that in itself is cause for a semi-celebration.

Aragorn maquette pics were released (with a teaser of the Gandalf maquette!) on 6/15 and pre-order was on 6/18.

The Morgul Lord PF pics being shown 6/22 and pre-order on 6/25.

Legolas maquette production vidoe released 6/18.

Plus the knowledge that one more LOTR PF should be available for pre-order after Comic Con.

I know this is just a drop in the bucket compared to the number of Marvel pieces Sideshow has shown / made available for pre-order, but I'll take it.

Now we just need news on a new diorama.

I may be wrong, but I thought we got a sneak peek of the Gimli maquette a few weeks back? Not the concept art, but a shot of the polystone statue?

Amen!

this was a great month as a LOTR collector, and I can't help but think that this more aggressive schedule helps to maintain excitement and interest in the various LOTR lines as they preorder/ship!
I know I am glad that I have Gandalf on preoder, and I am doubly happy that another PF is on the horizon, and the same goes for the Maquette line as well!

I have a feeling that SS isn't necessarily going to release these maquettes in the order that we see teases/peeks. They've shown us Gimli being made, shown GTG behind Aragorn and now Legolas. After all of that, they'll probably announce that Arwen:love will follow her beau.

Regardless of how they do it, I am SO stoked for this line!

Sideshow needs to keep up the momentum. The LOTR collector's forums, at one point as desolate as the Dead Marshes, are now alive and buzzing with discussion, debate and enthusiasm once again. :yess:

KEEP IT UP, SIDESHOW. Don't you let us down again.

Yes, though I collect other things as well, it's nice to have LotR collectibles to look forward too again! :)

My Gandalf EX converted :rock
I get to pre-order Morgul Lord PF??? YeeeaahhH!!!
And I scored a Ringwraith LSB for 80 shipped :rock
SO a great month for me!

I'm also happy for the SS/W statue guys who get to improve their collections via the maquettes, they look like theyre gonna be great.

I have a very stong feeling that the diorama series is dead now that the maquettes are starting up. Which I think is terrible because I love the dioramas. But I really think the maquettes are replacing the dioramas. Anyone from Sideshow want to comment on this?

Goes to show that the right choices make all the difference. :lecture

If the Dios are dead, don't expect SSC to comment on this right away. Some of us are still attending the LSB funeral. Two deaths in one month might be too much... :(

I'd bet the Dios are un-officially on hold till they see how the maquettes perform. If they tank, SSC might just fall back on the Dios.

SS's already said the LSB line is "under review" while they concentrate on the maquette line. The dio. line might be safe for now, but not for long if they keep blowing it with the character/scene selections.

Yeah, i'm hoping for a new dio announcement for SDCC, surely they wouldn't cancel 2 lines in quick succesion? Unless they're determined to focus all their energy into pumping out the maquettes and PF's, as may be the case.... but in the Q&A's they've said a few diorama ideas are a possibility.

Anyway, thanks for the renewed LOTR love SS! Now bring on a diorama or two!

I would to see some diorama love from SS, as long as that doesn't include another Aragorn. :nono I've fired off numerous product suggestions to SS concerning the dio. line with these being a few of the favourites I'd love to see:

1]. Boromir vs Lurtz [Amon Hen]

2]. Treebeard with Merry and Pippin [Fangorn Forest]

3]. The Morgul Lord vs Eowyn [Pelennor Fields]

4]. Legolas vs the Uruk Hai [Helm's Deep]

5]. Gandalf the White riding Gwaihir with Landrovel and Meneldor [Mordor]

6]. Gimli vs the Cave Troll [Mines of Moria]

Hopefully SS is listening. :lecture

Add to your list Frodo placing the ring onto the table with Elrond watching from The Council, and Sam vs Shelob and i'd be a happy chappie :D
