I would like to thank our massively talented customizers here that have recommended Model Master Acryl paints. They are truly remarkable and so much better than the other stuff on the market.
So thank you, I am really enjoying the results I'm getting.

Glad you took the advice! Les gave me the very same advice and my work improved tenfold. I love those paints, can't wait to see how much it changes your work. :rock

You're most welcome.

Now, let's see some results! I know you have 'em in you Anzik! :D
They are great paints. Be careful of your ratios of colors in your supply. You will go through Burnt Umber, Black, Fleshtones and Yellow! :D

Can't wait to see what you have done.

I still have to get some of this stuff. I have only been able to afford the Walmart stuff. Plus when I went out no stores in my area had this brand. Soon though soon.

Is the Wal-Mart stuff not even worth trying with?.. It's all that I've picked up so far and my Christmas holidays were going to be my time to do some custom projects...

Josh said it is ok to use. I forget his exact words but he said that you could get by on it. I painted this with it and it turned out ok.

Its not that the Walmart paints are bad. I used to use Liquitex, mainly and then I would pick up the cheap stuff for quickie projects, mainly because they were much thinner than LT. The Model Master is just a vastly superior paint.

I was meaning to ask what are some good paints to use, but never got around to it. So what colors are recommended for painting most heads? Also what are some good pastels to use for shading, and what colors should I get?

I'm dreading paint mixing, the last time I tried painting a figure model in my teens with Tamiya acrylics, I made a mess of it, I never could get the right mixes.
So I think I'm going to go the pastel route, I might have better luck with that.

BTW, here's a great thread I saved on head painting from Boot25 on OSW:

Well, they CAN work. But for skin tones it gives a very chalky appearance that doesn't really work well for me. It looks unprofessional to use for all colors. I use it sometimes for hair, dirt and washes. Also I use it for pure black and white. But only because my town doesn't carry the paint either. I have to make an hour drive out to a nearby town to get the Model Master stuff. And even then my color selection is crap. Don't even have Umber in any shade or a decent yellow. So I have to make due. :lol

But skin shades of Apple Barrel paints look like crap. Trust me. Model Master paints are slick and really look nice once you are finished. :rock

As for pastels, not to discredit Boot's style of work... I just don't like them and can't use them myself. I find it is better to water down acrylic paint and use various tricks of layering to get a similiar effect and not look dusty in the end. I'm just not a fan of the chalky, dusty faced look.

Josh, if its not giving away a trade secret, what kind of shade do you make lips? I always find mine either too pink or too red.

No problem man! I use pure red, mix in a bit of Warm Skin Tone and a tiny tiny bit of burnt sienna. You should have a nice shade of warm pink. After you put that on and let it dry, come back with a lighter bubblegum pink.. maybe just a hair darker than that... And water it down a tad. Due a bit of highlight work on the bottom lip to really seal the deal and make the figure pop. :rock

Yeah, you customisers and painters are great. You leak enthusiasm and inspiration. Me, I just leak. Thanks guys.

..really? I guess it's about time I try and hunt these particular paints down then. I still use mostly artists tube acrylics...... but if these paints make it better? I guess i have no reason not to

I keep lookiNG at these paints in my local hobby shop. I may give them a shot, but i really love my citadel color paints. Anyone here ever used both those, and the model master paints, and able to give me a comparison?
