Originally this message was intended as a reply to a comment a board member made in another section but I thought it best to start another thread because the board needs some healing. I am not out to start a fight but I see a division growing and what appears to be a watershed for the Sideshow Freaks Board. I want to preface my message by saying that I am not, and will not apologize for my opinions. However, what I am willing to apologize for is hurting anyone in the process. I try to be as civil as possible but sometimes written language on an Internet board doesn't come off as it should. Here is the message...

I say this to all those reminiscing about the old board and the days when everyone was a Sideshow cheerleader and nothing negative was said about Sideshow- it's unrealistic to have such high expectations for a company and a group of people. Sideshow will make mistakes one day that even the "cheerleaders" will have a hard time getting behind. Furthermore, it really does take two opposing sides to discuss something and to make it interesting. How boring would this board be if everyone was just in love with everything with no difference of opinion?

I do not have a problem with Sideshow cheerleaders but I do have a problem with some people saying that negative things can't be said about Sideshow. I know a lot of people here were very upset about the lottery system that Sideshow tried to pull off and no one here was giving them any grief, and I think this is in part because the Sideshow "cheerleaders" were in fact not happy about it and troubled by Sideshow's move to implement it. Why give board members grief about their problems and concerns about Fett being plastic and how Sideshow made that move... because we all know that's what we are really talking about here.

I guess what I am trying to say is, everyone should stop being so closed minded and open up more to the opinions of all that post on this board. It isn't a fair or realistic expectation to demand complete and unconditional love from every board member, all the time. Most people on here like or love Sideshow or else we wouldn't be here, but the people running the company are human and do make mistakes as do the people on this board. So my hope is that everyone can lighten up and stop taking things so personally.

I never really complained about Plastic Fett ... just the way some people were telling others to shut up if they had a problem. However, it got me thinking. I went through 2 PF Vaders (started with the regular for 100 dollars below retail, then won the PF exc. Vader and Obi for 550 bucks). Both of them had minor defects. I have seen 2 others in friends possession and they also have minor defects. I didn't point them out because ... well, if they can't see them, why point them out and ruin it for them. The one I finally kept has a small half inch scratch on his helmet throat guard and 2 1/3 inch silver paint lines on the grey of his chest pauldron. Very minor things that I can only see when I examine him up close. But for some reason, this bothers me any time I think about it. Now, I have hundreds of 12 inch "doll" type figures and 7 and 3-3/4 inch plastic figures. Some of them have much worse defects. Yet, they do not bother me. I began to think about that last night ... why does the PF bother me?

In the end, I believe its related to cost and perception. While I only payed 260 for him, not the original 350 plus shipping, I still think of him as a 350 dollar statue. And for that reason, I think he should be perfect. Now, I realize there are made by humans and therefore theoretically can never be perfect. However, a little voice in the back of my head keeps saying, "you still overpaid for the damn thing .. why isn't it perfect!" It might not make sense to some, but it does to me.

So, what does this long diatribe have to do with this topic? I think this is a similar situation to what's happening with Plastic Fett ... sorry, not trying to cause more trouble ... but the names catchy now :monkey3 People are getting ready to spend large sums of money on him. For some, this is the collectible they have been waiting years for someone to make. You combine those 2 factors and you can see why their concerns might appear picky to others. But they are completely justified ... they are the ones spending money. I just wish people would respect that. If you don't want to read their comments, just don't open the thread. Its that simple.

...and I thought Civil War was a Marvel event. :monkey5 ;) :D

I have to keep reminding myself that just because I don't take this board (ie topics and opinions) and the collectibles overly seriously, a lot of people do and I try to be sensitive to that. :grouphug

However, as someone here said in another thread, cost for a collectible does not correlated with price in the "real world." Milk, baby food, bread, etc. - those are essentials. People have to have them to survive so any gouging is harmful and wrong. We don't have to have a PF Vader or Fett. We choose to have them. Therefore, the price point is irrelevant. Its worth exactly what you are willing to pay.

BUT but but, Sideshow is telling me to "Collect for life" - I MUST obey my master. I only eat on Film, Food and Figure Fridays! :emperor

As it is with most 2 sided flame wars.... you have the zealots on both sides who cannot bend on their beliefs and are insulted by another's.... It really sucks that it happens, but it does.

main thing is tolerance of each other's ideas and likes/dislikes. We all have to understand that we are all different and it is that difference that makes discussion happen. Without it, this board and the world in general would be a very very boring place.

Man it took me 15 gazillion paragraphs to say what you said in one. Brevity is king.

I told that to someone who had overvalued a DVD...an item is only worth as much as the buyer thinks it's worth or is willing to hand over. I've spent a huge amount of money in the past month collecting some of the finer SS pieces, particularly more being someone who lives in the UK. You've got to factor in the sometimes collossal shipping costs too.

Oh and as for Sideshow in general, I feel a lot of their 12" range is pretty average, some hideous faces and terrible articulation on some of the pieces...hell I only ever bought Ash and Evil Ash...and I got rid of them because they just weren't up to scratch.

I know the prevailing thought against me is that I see no flaw with SS what so ever. Well, that's never been true and will never be true. I've seen things done I didn't like and have said them when I saw them. Like the lottery for example. I said here and on SS Site that I didn't like it and that I thought this was not the way to sell things. When Legolas came out the production pics I said I wasn't happy with what I was seeing then. Those are just two things off the top of my head.

Overall, I'm happy with what I'm getting from SS it meets MY needs. So therefore I usually am ok but when I'm not I DO say something. If that bugs people that I'm happy with what I'm getting I'm sorry for you.

I've read today by at least a couple posters that if you're happy with where SS is going, and don't see "every" flaw then you're ignorant and your opinion is not worth as much. I've also see that if you're labeled a SS Cheerleader that you're not worth being listended to your're what I said in the last sentence. I'll say it again if you feel this is the case then I'm sorry for you that you seem to think you're better than me (as an example). If you don't care for what I have to say that much then place me on ignore and you'll never have to read another post.

I will continue to be who I am and that's someone overall who's happy with SS. If I see something I don't like then I will say so.

I'm sorry that some feel they're better than me beause I am who I am.

i expressed my opinion about not liking the fact boba is plastic but I love SS, and will probably keep my fett order. just would like it to be a mixture of poly. some people need to get over themselves in the way they think noone can "complain" or state honest criticism on SS products. to be honest i could give a rat's a$$ if they like what i say because when i close my eyes at night, they cease to exist. :)

Open and honest criticisms are totally fine with me. I don't feel for me I need to get over anything cause I don't have problems with people voicing concern.

I'll agree to that.

Man, what a long post. You know no one is going to take the time to read that!:emperor

Lets see whos next? It's like a game of tag. Heck even Pix got on board.

Now it's not only necroposting, it's necroposting to a thread with today/yesterday's date, so it appears like it's recent if you don't bother to look at the year, very confusing for me. I did read your whole post Rory, and thought to myself, "why didn't I see this? Who's upset about what now." then I saw it was 3/4/07
