Re: Aldo Raine Head Sculpt - Hot Toys or DID

A repaint could bring the DiD sculpt on the same level as HT. The sculpt is pretty good but that's about it.

Also, how do you fit the hat on the Hot Toys Head Sculpt, is the flick removable?

HT Aldo without a doubt.

DID Hans, much better. No question.

That DID Hans is a travesty. It has the kind of caricatured and exaggerated features that you'd include in a 3.75" scale figure. It kinda looks like Christoph Waltz if he was wearing some kind of cartoonish **** Tracy/Sin City makeup.

Sometimes I think people get off on "improving" their figures to the point that they're incapable of seeing how awful their mods are. I also think that like most things with a substantial financial investment people who pay for them are afraid to admit that they wasted a bunch of money on top of an already-expensive figure so they convince themselves that "their" head is better.

Putting these hilarious heads on the Hot Toys IB figures is like buying a brand new car with a beautiful factory paint job and covering the whole thing with spray paint.

I guess it is just other opinions! They are two different expressions.

A travesty? why ? cus you dont like it? I like the DID a lot better than the HT for many of the reasons some of the board members have stated. Do i hate the HT? although it has that infamous HT 100 yard stare,i like it, but not as much as DID's version.
What do you care what people mod or invest? is it your money and time? Lets see you mods and customs, not just what you buy and put up on a shelf.

DiD's has arguably the better expression, which would make it arguably the better representation of the character.

Is that a Mitt Romney figure in the 3rd pic?

I like how you didn't reply to the people quoting you, and just go ahead and bash DiD. :lol

DiD made the better head, IMO. Can't live with that? Too bad. The fact you call others' mods and customs "awful" makes your opinion irrelevant as you don't seem to understand the concept of collecting and playing with toys.

Thanks for your input. However, that image is hardly a good representation for this sculpt. I used a horrible photo filter which saturated the colors to the extreme. I assure you, the sculpt is far better in-hand.

I admit, the "Mitt Romney" sculpt isn't winning any arguments, but the additional (serious) head sculpt the figure came with is superior to HT's in my opinion. Having said that, I wouldn't adorn any of my HT's with another manufacturer's head sculpt. As you stated, its too expensive to trifle with.

DID Hans is a little too extreme in the expression. HT likeness is better, but no one likes that expression. When you do comparison shots of serious Hans with HT, it's pretty spot-on.

The neutral facial expressions are an issue on both Basterds figures from Hot Toys. But if you'd rather take a substantial dive in the quality department because the original expression doesn't do it for you than you can't see the forest because of the trees.

Hot Toys is dead-on Waltz even if they didn't go with the kind of facial expression we all expected and I'm not about to replace a beautiful HT head with sone amateur hour DiD sculpt because he's kinda smirking. The Mitt Romney likeness aside I don't think either DiD sculpts really captures Landa's demeanor either.
