Are there any fellow Brazilian Jiu Jitsu practitioners out there. I train at BIG JOHN McCarthys Ultimate Training Academy under Mike Ortiz who is a Rickson Gracie Black Belt. I have been training for a few years and achieved the level of Blue Belt. And at 43 years young I feel pretty good about it.Well at least until I roll with Big John and get my ass handed to me (he is a Black belt) and a great teacher. There are some amazing guys that train there and plenty to learn from them. Anyway , this is a shout out to any JITS guys around here. :D Mike Jiu Jitsu is he best thing that has ever happened to me as I have lost 30 pounds and am continuing to lose weight and I think it keeps me young.

Left to Right: My bros and me the night we got our Blue Belts

Jess , Tony , Big John , Mike ORTIZ , Myself and Coli

I would love too get into BJJ, not to much free time on my hand. A few years back I trained in a little bit of Karate, Kempo, Kung-Fu, Boxing, Escrima (Filipino Stick Fighting) and fooled around with friends that was actually taking BJJ and learned a few basic moves. Maybe later on after my wife finishes school in about a year, I'll find a school to go to.

Great pic with BJ. He is one of my favorites!!!!

Thats awesome man, congratulations on the Blue Belt. I'm a decently big guy, but always wanted to back it up with some form of martial art. Is that guy Titos brother? Hope that's not a dumb question, I just don't know.

I know he would hand me my but on a plate, but do we think Chuck Lidell is washed up or in a nicer way, past his prime?

Sorry this post is off topic. Just noticed a separate thread devoted to UFC. If you want it removed, let me know.

I think Chuck has a few left in him. I am not a fan but totally respect his skills. I don't think he wants to go out like that.

God I miss martial arts. Since my first kid (2 kids now) I had to put it on hold. I'm 36, here's hoping I have the drive to get back to it. Good for you man.

I was at the point in my life at 40 where I started to feel like I was out of the game. I let my weight get out of control and my doctor put me on blood pressure medication. I was always an active person in my younger days received my Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do at the age of 22 and trained hard until I hit 30 and just burnt out on Martial Arts and just became a couch potato and got less and less active. Gained too much weight and at 40 knew I needed to do something about it. Well one night a brand new show aired called THE ULTIMATE FIGHTER and my son and I (he was 18 at the time) got hooked. We started wrestling around the living room breaking funiture and my wife finally had enough and put her foot down and said " Join a school and wrestle there" so we looked up Jiu Jutsu schools in the area found Mike Ortiz and the rest is history. I lost 30 pounds along the way and am continuing to lose more as I train every day now. I guess what I am saying is YOU can do it if I can. 36 is still young bro. JUST MAKE UP YOUR MIND AND DO IT. :D I got so lucky to find Mike Ortiz because he changed my life and always had faith in me as a person who was determined to lose weight and get healthy. At Mike's school I was surrounded by amazing guys who cared about me and wanted me to succeed. After I had been there a year Mike closed our school to become BIG JOHN McCarthy's Jiu Jitsu instructor and we all went over there to train. I wanted to train wherever Mike was at. When Mike gave me my Blue Belt it was an amazing day in my life as I felt the validation that I WAS BACK IN THE GAME. I recently converted my garage to a full gym with wresting mats , weights , hanging bag and treadmill. I don't plan on stopping anytime soon. As long as my body and mind allows I will keep training. Good luck in your journey bro and let me know if I can help you out in any way. Mike:D
