Hello - well I just bought a house and I have some stuff growing and I have no idea what it is...I've looked online..but still have no idea. Yes, I could go to the nursery...but I thought I would ask here first. :)

These are probably some type of weed....but I really have no idea.

This one has leaves that look like cilantro and little yellow flowers. It grows like crazy and is even in my yard.

This one is a fast growing stalky plant with furry leaves and purple flowers. About 2 months ago - this was not there....and now it is probably over 3 feet tall.

Because of the flowers and I don't mind them at the moment..I'm letting them stay....but I would love to know what they are.

If anyone has any ideas I would appreciate your input! :) Thanks!!

Jen, I recently bought a home and I too am dealing with weed recognition!:rotfl I don't think the purple ones are weeds though?

This will kill weeds that have been hanging around for a while and those just starting to pop up.

Ingredients

1 oz. gin
1 oz. apple cider vinegar
1 squirt baby shampoo
2 or 3 cups of water
spray bottle

Fill your spray bottle with water until it reaches 3/4 full (about 2 or 3 cups).

Add the gin, apple cider vinegar and baby shampoo to the spray bottle and shake it gently.

Spot spray it on weeds being careful to avoid your lawn and other plants because it could kill them too. This stuff is heavy duty. When you tire of them of course.

I think I'm going to just take some clippings and head to the nursery. Curiosity is getting the better of me. :lol And I know absolutely nothing about plants/trees/weeds.....have a lot to learn.

I think the weeds with the yellow flower-tops are known as:

Creeping Buttercup (Ranunculus repens)

"Most likely to be a pest in damp or acid soils. Large yellow flowers, rough leaves, creeping stems that root at every node. Spreads quickly, the runners criss-crossing and forming dense mats. Can be dealt with methodically by digging up each plant, which is fairly easily done as they are shallow-rooted, but removing the source of all new plants or stolons seems impossible. "

You can check this chart of yellow weed types if you need picture samples or if you have different varieties of yellow weeds.

I have an uncle who had a whole backyard filled with these annoyances. You should dig up all of it from the roots and if they ever come back try to get rid of them before the yellow flower bulbs bloom. When they bloom, the wind carries the seeds and makes further growth more likely.

Hope that helps.

the yellow ones looking like creeping buttercups which are weeds. don't know about the purple ones.

By golly, I think you're right! Just did a google and that is exactly what they look like! :D They are growing in an area which has nothing right now...so I don't mind them...but I got to get them out of my grass.

Thanks for that - always looking for more natural and chemical free weed killers. :D

Thanks for that......dang...sounds like they are going to be a pain to get rid of...especially since I just let them all flower...thinking - gee aren't those pretty! :lol

Well...the very, very back of my yard has a few blackberry bushes and then this stuff......it's on a steep slope and like I said it's fine if it stays in that area.

all i get around my house are dandelions. they are a ^^^^^ to control cuz my neighbors don't do anything about theirs. all their seeds infiltrate the entire block. lazy bastards.

free landscaping! lol. I actually wish I had a little bit of that problem, but here in colorado all our natural weeds look like crap!

Jen, chances are the purple one is a weed too. There are alot of weeds that are very pretty. I have no idea what the difference between a weed and a wildflower is. Sometimes they look alike!

I have a wide grass that is growing up right in the middle of some of my day lillies and pulling it out is almost out of the question. I have no idea what I can put on it that won't kill the lillies. It doesn't grow around them, only through them. :(
