Im now thinking about getting into the statue game. Prime 1 Batman Arkham Knight, Prime 1 Joker, PF Batman, Yoda life size are all pieces that I would love to get. The problem is money, other lines I enjoy collecting, and somewhat lack of space... Also just trying to wrap my head around the idea of 1 Statue or 2, 5, 10 Hot Toys. 1 Statue or dozens of six inch figures. 1 statue or 50 funko pops.

To the statue collectors out there I just have some questions...

- Are statues the only thing you collect?
- How many pieces per year do you try to grab?
- Did you regret getting into statues (aside from the cost)?
- Did you give up other lines to collect statues?
- When you look at other collectibles you could get for one statue, is there a sense of regret?

Thanks for any advice or answers.

My figure collecting has changed styles many times over the years but the one constant has been my statues. So I'll answer your questions.

1 No. Statues are a fun addition to my collection but nowhere near the bulk of it.
2 It really depends on the selection during any given year. Some years I grab 1 others I pick up 6.
3 No I do not regret getting into statues. They're so much fun to stare at. Beautiful pieces of art.
4 I've given up other lines over the years but it had nothing to do with statue purchasing.
5 Never. Because I don't buy every statue I think is cool I never feel like I should've spent that money elsewhere. i think with statue collecting moderation is key. Only grab the ones of characters that you absolutely love and you'll never regret any purchase. Never buy characters you're not that familiar with (uber-sexy comic women will tempt you).

Don't know if this helps but I find staue collecting to be extraordinarily fun!

I think will always prefer figures because I love to pose them, but I love the few statues I have.

1. Already answered
2. I just buy a statue when I really like it. So it depends I might get only 1 a year maybe 2
3. Not at all
4. Statues aren't really a priority for me so, no
5. No. If I ever wonder if a statue is really worth it I think that means I shouldn't buy it at all

Thanks for the answers. I like the art part, never really viewed them in that way, but I can see that they are. Moderation is good advice. I have about 6 favorite characters, Batman, Joker, Obi Wan, Yoda, Vader, Captain America, sticking with those for statue only purchases would be a good idea, those characters habe a lot of great upcoming pieces I would love to grab.

Thanks for the answers. I agree with your last point. I don't ever question a Hot Toys purchase, but I look at the more expensive statues in the $800-$1500 range and I think thats when I start questioning myself. I like a lot of the Premium Format figures and think the cost is decent, so maybe I will start out with a 1/4 Vader. Would love to have the Obi-Wan Mythos.

1. No
2. Its not about how many, its more about self-expression
3. Aside from cost... just space lol ...and dusting :slap
4. I've given up / pushed back some other real world purchases
5. No regret, if I want something else I'll save for it eventually

Only advice would be not to try to collect everything. Find a niche and try to stick to it. If you look for meaning in a piece rather than it just being cool it helps.

I collected only 1:6 until SS mythos line was announced: I have Obi, Vader and Fett; they are stunning to look at and no I don't feel compelled to get more statues--yet!

Uh, I love questions!

1. No, I collect replicas as well. Such as Marvel replicas of Mjölnir and Cap's shield, and LOTR in terms of replicas swords (got a lot).
2. I varies a lot depending on their individual prices. The past years have been slower since I don't have much more room to work with. So maybe less than a handful.
3. Not really. I love what it gives me. But it's a lot of money, and I often dream where I would be if I hadn't gone down this path.
4. I've given up within collecting statues. I no longer collect as much Star Wars as I once did, where more than half my collection was related to that. Now I collect Marvel and a bit DC Comics. Still statues, though.
5. Not really. I have carefully picked my statues. The only regret is that I have too little room.

- Are statues the only thing you collect?
No. I collect 1:6 figures, statues, busts, prop replicas, helmets, studio scale etc. Small items and really big items.

- How many pieces per year do you try to grab?
Depends on what grabs my eye. ;-) I have a collection focus and besides that I only collect what I really like.

- Did you regret getting into statues (aside from the cost)?
No. Neither to getting into even bigger items like life-size.

- Did you give up other lines to collect statues?
I don't buy small items that don't interest me too much - though I buy some still, but those need to be really into my focus. Every $ you save from one of those is another $ you can add to a higher end item you might want.

- When you look at other collectibles you could get for one statue, is there a sense of regret?
You cannot have everything in the world. Get only the items you truly like and you'll have no regrets afterwards.

Getting in to buying statues is a slippery slope. When I first started collecting, I collected 6" Buffy figures. Then I found out about Sideshow's 12" Buffy line and bought Spike and Buffy right away. And of course, I kept going. Then I saw ssc was making PF's and I saw the price and said "Hell no." I spent every day after that staring at the item desperately wanting it. You know what happened? I bought Red Pants Buffy. Then I bought Angel, and then I expanded to the Lara Croft PF, and then Red Skull, etc. You think you're going to be able to stick to one genre, or some specific line but let's face it. We like a lot more than just 1 thing. And the moment other 'likes' catch your eye, you're going to want them too.

So either don't go into this game thinking you know that you're going to stick 100% to one thing, and be open to the probability of wanting almost everything, or just don't even bother.

I happen to love collecting statues and Hot Toys figures and I am okay with the fact that I love a little of everything. My collection is amazing and I wouldn't change a thing.

Well, I'd go back in time and smack the fool that sold her Red Skull pf.

Collecting is a truly expensive hobby but it has a lot of ups, too.
