Anyone else ever consider making your own background dioramas for display?

After displaying my Enter the Dragon Bruce Lee and Sweeney Todd with their included background dioramas, I feel the background makes the figure look even more amazing, but it sucks that every figure doesn't come with one. Anyone else ever think of making their own out of cardboard? At a size that would fit a detolf shelf? Seems like it'd be a great idea, but I never see anyone else's attempts yet. Is it just too expensive?? (No clue on cost)

I honestly don't like the cardboard too much. I like those dioramas that sideshow has been making, the environments they make for their GI Joe figures are great. I havent even opened the cardboard displays yet honestly, think they look kinda tacky but thats just me :dunno

There was some guy here who was selling all kinds of backdrops not too long ago. He had several Predator ones, generic landscapes, etc. I would like to have smaller ones that just fit in the back of a detolf shelf--nuked out future city for Terminator figures, city at night for Batman, city at day for Spider-Man, war-torn battlefield for GI Joe, something resembling a Star Wars environment for Star Wars, etc. I had the Godfather and Bruce Lee figures displayed with them, and thought it was a neat addition.

His looked very good. I think he was asking about $35 each which is a nice price :clap

I'm with you on that. I personally find the cardboard backdrops a little tacky to but I do like the dio's SS have been making for there SW figures but there obviously not cheap either.

I don't like using the backdrops that are just flat images (like mentioned, they're tacky).

Things like Bruce Lee's mirror/wall pattern background work better because they don't rely on an image that is supposed to have depth to it.

I love the HT Backdrops. After I bought the mech test IM backdrop, I ended up buying 2 sweeney and 1 bruce lee cause it does complement the figures well. I used to use 1/6 dioramas or environment and although they are much better, it does take up a lot of room in a detolf. The backdrops though are perfect. I almost bought the custom ones that the guy here was selling but they were too big to fit in a detolf.
I did also had to cut the Mech test IM backdrop. Although I did a good job doing so, I just would prefer if they are already precut to fit in a detolf.

Not a fan of simple cardboard prints either. But if anyone wants to make their own, all they really need is good source material. Take that to a printers who can print onto card and there y'go.

Me, I'm looking forward to the day when I can reclaim the garage from all the baby stuff we're holding onto and get myself a workshop. Little bandsaw, drillpress, sanding disc, painting booth... :drool

I'm not a fan of the cardboard prints either. I'd rather prefer dio stands.

Agree with the sentiment that the HT backdrops look better since they add a 3 dimensional look to the display.
