I'm looking at getting the Panasonic Viera 42" (TH-42PX700) model and wondered if anyone here had one and what they thought of it.

Also where would be a good place to buy one

Thanks

I'm not 100% sure of the model # right now but that's the tv I have. Absolutely no complaints about the quality of picture or anything like that. The only thing I could possibly complain about is it has only 1 HDMI input. My next tv will need to have at least 3 (like the awesome 46" my Grandfather bought)

I would say buy with confidence as I know a couple others that have this tv too and feel the same way I do.

Hey DL

sounds like you may have the TH-42PX7B model as I believe that has 1 HDMI port. The TH-42PX70 has 2 HDMI ports and the TH-42PX700 has 3, that's why I'm going for that one.

Do you have it on a stand or wall mounted? I'm looking to get mine on the wall....

On a stand for now. My basement has paneling and isn't really any where sturdy enough for holding an eighty pound tv.

If it has the inputs you're looking for, I'd say go for it. It's a great tv (I've had mine for almost 2 years) and have never had any problems

I think I'm pretty much sold on that model.....just need to shop around for a good price.

thanks for the info

Buy with confidence on any Panasonic plasmas. The research I did led me away from a Pioneer plasma that cost $1k more and is smaller, to my current plasma. I have mine wall-mounted. One pain in the butt about wall mounts is that if you want to hook any other inputs to it (read: PS3, Xbos, Wii, etc), you just have to account for some ingenious way to do it without having to dismount that sucker!

For the record, once you've been spoiled on a plasma, it's hard to go back to anything else.

One thing I wonder though. Plasma TV's are more expensive for the 1080p and it's much cheaper for an LCD TV with 1080p, is the color quality of a plasma good enough to overlook the lower resolution?

Color is not the issue that pops up when comparing plasma to LCDs. There's a reason why LCDs are cheaper, and that's because they have to compensate for motion blur, or the lack or inability to. Though they're getting better, the brightness of the picture also plays a role.

Well, I know plasma has a greater range of color and contrast. And LCD's can have the issue of ghosting. But most current LCD's have a good response time so there isn't a ghosting issue. What I'm wondering is if it would be better to have an LCD TV at like 1080p compared to a Plasma TV of the same size at 720p

For gaming, and how I have things setup now with my PS3, I'm able to display my plasma at 1080i. I'm sure one could do the same with 1080p on an LCD. I understand that not seeing 1080p on a plasma is not as critical. But, without side-by-side comparison, it's a tough call. I'm aware that LCDs are cheaper in price, and their technology at preventing ghosting is better (response time better). One other aspect of LCDs I didn't like is that they don't show up as bright when in a brightly lit room compared to plasmas. At this point, the lines between plasmas and LCDs are certainly blurred. But, ultimately it's what comfortable with your pocketbook and your likes.

I have the 46" LCD Panasonic 1080p and its a very nice set, and has 2 HMDI inputs. I went back and forth about the decision between Plasma and LCD and for me it seemed the LCD was a better route to go and I've been very impressed with it :D

didn't realise that Panasonic made an LCD in that size (at least not in the UK). All the large screens I've seen by them have been Plasma.

Nope, though I do have an RCA 52" Plasma Screen. It works pretty good, though one of the remote button's has crapped out, unfortunately.

Just purchased the Panasonic TH42PX700 model for £1,084 which I'm quite pleased with. Most other shops were selling it for £1,399.

It's arriving next week so I just now need to book in some hojme entertainment guys to mount it to the wall and hide all the cables etc within the wall. :D

just got a quote for some cables for my tv and they've come out pretty expensive,. Can anyone recommend any HDMI, Scart, and Optical cables (I need 3 metres) that I can get?

I'd like to buy a new tv set soon, and wile I was leaning towards LCD, I came across this:

I'm certainly going to wait an other half year before I buy a new tv set.

Yeah, OLED's are really really great. 4x the resolution of current displays, thinner screen, less power consumption. up to 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio. But, they aren't coming around for a while and they are very expensive because the technology is so new and there aren't many manufacturers of OLED displays.

Sony is supposedly going to be releasing a 15" OLED TV this year and then a 27" after that.

Yes, same old story. They make something which is less expensive in production, and they charge people more, just because it's new technology... Mitsubishi built the prototype, and apparently Samsung is involved also. The first models should be in stores around Xmas 2007, making plasma a thing of the past.

very true. Look at the cost of Plasma's 5 years ago...and that was before LCD were even in the mainstream. Give it a few years and the price will drop....just like the price of Blu-Ray DVD players....
