Windows Movie Maker.

Anything else requires a year or two of messing around with. I'm not joking.

I had Adobe Premiere for 4 years, and i've just recently got the hang of it. I learned key framing, and all that stuff. It's hard, but ultimatly rewarding.

I've been using Roxio Creator 2009, which includes an editing program called VideoWave. Its ok and it didn't take me long to get the hang of it but the package as a whole is a little buggy. Roxio Creator is less than $100 and comes with video and audio editing, DVD creator and burning and copying software.

What exactly are you looking to do with your video? Depending on the level of quality you want, even the iMovie software that comes with iLife '09 is pretty decent. But if you're looking for professional stuff with filters, plug ins, etc then Final Cut Pro is your choice.

First are you looking for Mac or PC?
Second for personal stuff or professional level?

If PC.
I was looking for something a few months ago to edit helmet cam footage. I tried Pinnacle Studio Ultimate, Sony Vegas Studio HD Platinum ,and Adobe Premiere Pro CS5. I ended up with Sony Vegas since it seemed to have the most options for value. I liked all 3 and would have got Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 since I could have got it for an insane deal but couldnt get it to ever render the videos. The best part was all 3 had full demos. I would say dont buy anything you cant demo first.

^ Rendering is easy. There should be a button on one of the tabs that says Render selection.

Ok i knew how to do it but they would fail, be out of sync or jumpy in HD. The other programs I had no issues with so I dont know if Adobe needed that much more power or what. The computer I was using is a core i7 duo 860 and 8 gb of ram.

Mine did that for a while too....but when I cleaned out my computer, it started to work again.
