Oh... they did...

I am curious if anyone else is having issues attaching the bend legs. I am also having issues specifically with the Sméagol head. The neck post keeps moving the eyes whenever I set the head on the body but this was not an issue with the gollum head for me.

Yeah the legs are a erm, tricksy, to get on. I had to use a hair dryer on them. That made them slip on nice and easy.

And yeah... I could have gone the rest of my life without the surprise reveal of Gollum's wee little Smeagol... Or Smeagol's wee little Gollum. :banana

Yeah, we never needed to see his Precious.

I'm pretty sure the loincloth is supposed to have an underwear-like bit that cups his undercarriage and then there's a triangle that hangs down over the front and back. It's not supposed to be JUST the triangles.

Edit: Here's an image of how (I think) the basic structure of his loincloth is supposed to work ...

The hat is a bizarre but funny inclusion.

My two biggest critiques are that they don’t smell very good (accurate to Gollum I suppose) and I think they are scaled a bit too big compared to the hobbits.

Unsightly wrist joints -- can't you slide up the rubber sleeve?

Unsightly line on the back of the head -- fortunately its on the back

Unsightly mismatching color on hands, feet and body -- hopefully not so bad in person

Unsightly ween -- good they give you the loin cloth

The rubber sleeve is pretty much fixed where it is. No sliding.

The line on the back of his head does bug.

The paint is much better in person.

This is a mini review I sent my friend Jon when I got the future today:
I had a chance to just look at Sméagol and I’m really impressed! I think this is the best out of the box asmus I’ve gotten, but it has issues

Paint and sculpt looks good. But the legs are not coming on. I also hate that they are orange and dark compared to the rest. In person it’s not better it’s worse sadly…

The loin cloth sucks I’ll be replacing that …I had one on my old NECA that was homemade and I liked it a lot

I’ll try heating up the crouching legs and I’ll just leave it on one of them. I doubt I’ll use the base. I really do hate how the legs are so dark though

I also don’t really understand the seam in the back of his head but the eyes may be the thing that bothers me the most. For the first time in history rolling eyes look perfect and natural… but the mechanism doesn’t work! Not enough space to move inside to get any side glances and the min you put the head on the inner plug knocks him cross eyed. Super annoying

The hair also bugs me a bit too at first I thought it was nice and fine but this is sort of how I wish yodas hair looked but upon looking at the film again it’s supposed to be more stringy and dark . I may try to gel it or replace it

He may indeed be a bit tall actuslly but all in all I have to say my expectations were low and they are far exceeded

For the price point I think it’s okay. Why the hat though? What a bizarre addition.
The hat is an updated one for Asmus' Gandalf the Grey figure. The sculpted one that initially came with that figure was not well received, so Asmus said they would develop a fabric one and include it at no extra charge with their (at the time) upcoming figures, like Gollum, Smeagol, Old Bilbo, etc., with the assumption that someone who buys one of those figures probably already has their Gandalf the Grey and would want the updated sculpt. It was also an option to contact Asmus directly to order just the hat.

I really like this guy. It did take a bit of reworking but minimal effort.

I just weathered his loin cloth to make it look more realistic, straightened and painted the hair and added a few more darker strands, accentuated the wrinkles and lining around his eyes and added some moles and spots.

Not my usual good pics but it will suffice. I’ll do gollum and post better pictures

Big disappointment. The paint applications on this are just not it. Looks like a McDonalds toy. It needs a full repaint to get to it’s full potential which is just frustrating.

I feel like there’s better options out there, like 1/6 style statues that aren’t articulated or Neca’s 1/4 version from years ago.

I think this was the final nail in the coffin for me when it comes to buying stuff from Asmus. All the production issues and quality shortcomings with their Evil Dead Ash were already bothersome. I don’t like companies that release half assed stuff and I don’t care that this figure is relatively cheap. They’re basically forcing you to get two figures if you want the two heads. So realistically you are paying over $250 for this.

I’m sceptical of how the seamless arms will will hold up in longterm as well.

I included a picture of Neca’s now 10 year old version of Gollum in 1/4.

The industry has evolved so much since this came out and 1/6 is just getting better and more detailed and 1/6 and 1/4 are starting to look closer and closer in detail.

Yet Asmus still releases stuff that looks like it came from 2005 Hot Toys era.

I rest my case.

I think you’re confusing the sculpted replacement GTG hat that they sent out to replace the original fabric one.
The hat that comes with Gollum/Smeagol is just a promo 1:6 baseball cap with the LOTR logo on it.
