Some final verbal diarrhoea to get out the rest of my thoughts and frustrations with this series below:

- I actually cannot believe how blatantly obvious it is now that Reva’s character was a diversity push from Disney after the culmination of her arc within this show. The fact that such a significant amount of screentime was given to her poorly acted, poorly written, POINTLESS character instead of Pre Clone Wars/Clone Wars, Satine, or even Qui-Gon flashbacks is a travesty. Kenobi training with force-ghost Qui-Gon to reconnect with the force is another example of wasted the potential with this show.

- Whilst I thought the actress for Leia was really good and I enjoyed her performance, I just felt like we again wasted time with her little sub-pot instead of actually seeing more Kenobi in the ‘Kenobi Show’!

- Tala was fantastic, loved her acting and sendoff with the droid. The dichotomy of acting talent when her scenes were back to back with Reva’s was hilarious.

- I am convinced this show was some kind of money-laundering operation for Disney because there is absolutely ZERO chance this was $25 million per episode or whatever it was. It genuinely was of such a poor quality sometimes the fan-film jokes cut way deeper than they should have. Why the hell did it look so low-budget??

I’m pretty certain I may just seclude myself now with the PT/OT, Clone Wars, Rebels, Rogue One, bits of Mando, and some of my favourite novels (Republic Commando, Plagueis, Thrawn) rerunning on an endless cycle and live out the rest of my days as a hermit. It’s a simple life, but I’m sure it’s a good one

Emotional impact only then OBW just might be # 2 right behind the “I am your father” emotional impact.

It was a really powerful moment sold entirely on their deliveries (Hayden Christensen…I KNOW), Vader’s mixed voice, Vader’s face reveal and Obi-Wan’s reaction!

Ewan really REALLY knows how to sell torment and sadness!

Sorry JAWS lol
I would move OWK up a few spots for sure if I focused on emotional impact.

The best saber fights have both decent choreography and some emotional impact.

It’s why Empire is king. It had pretty cool choreography, was brilliantly directed, had amazing Vader taunting dialogue and the I am you father moment

Jedi had Luke finally turning to the dark side and Vaders turn back to the light. Choreography was hit or miss.

TPM was just brilliantly choreographed and nothing on SW has come close. It’s still as fresh and amazing to watch today as it was then. Not much in terms of Drama but the fight itself heaps it above OWK

TROS. I love the setting, the back to basics choreography and the emotional 1,2 ouch of Leia and Han. I know Han is well after the fight but it still is the best part of the entire ST

OWK had great dialogue moments and some decent choreography. I did not like the setting, the lighting, the cheap look of, or the way some of it was directed. Also hated the cutaways to Reva.

It’s what holds it back from possibly being 2nd on my list.

A better story surrounding the two would have helped also. The show really should have only about those two.

You know what would have been a good ending for Reva that would have enhanced the OT ??

It aunt Beru shot and killed her when she broke through the door.

Then we would see what uncle Owen and Aunt Beru were willing to do for Luke. How they saved his life and how their death in ANH would have been a little more impactful. Oh and it would have made Beru a bad *** :lol

I know some of that is still true even without them killing her. We know they are willing to fight for Luke. But we would have gotten an actual surprise ending to Reva’s character

It's tough being a star wars fan...

Especially when you get this...

What if...Reva comes back as a Strom Trooper in the re-imagined 'New Hope' to finish the job!

I'm not much of a fan of the twirling saber battles because I feel like it's just fluff to make things look more impressive rather than practical in a fighting sense. I mean, a twirl here and there, or a spin here in there is acceptable, but ROTS levels of spinny flip-flip is just overboard IMO.
I personally like the saber battles in ESB, OWK, ROTJ and Mando (Ahsoka) because of this. Just fancy enough, but there is some weight to the fights. Of the one-way saber scenes RO and Luke's return in Mando I really liked.

While I still think the Force powers were overdone to a great extent, upon reflection one of my criticisms of the Vader duel scenes can be rolled back.

"He doesn't move like Vader" -- well, as the fight choreographer suggests, this is Obi Wan and Vader at their peak.

Even Yoda grew old and died; such is the way of things. Vader could age, sustain damage, and slow down over time. Obi Wan is more or less self-explanatory.

I do like what they did with the actual swordplay, when viewed from a vacuum, i.e. outside of the show itself, which (although I haven't watched all of the episodes) I maintain was poor in most respects.

I still don't like the over-powered Force tricks or Obi Wan walking away in a snit, but that's neither here nor there.

I don't quite understand why Owen and Beru became these awesome heroes who now battle to save Luke's life. I mean weren't they kinda the SW versions of the Uncle/Aunt Dursleys who Harry Potter lives with?

So this Kenobi sequence is almost like a HP prequel series where Potter is like 4 or 5 and you have goofy Uncle Vern and Aunt Petunia suddenly becoming brave defenders of Harry against an evil someone sent by Voldemort.

Owen in ANH wasn't some sage Costner rancher/father figure who tells Luke how it is - he's a stick-in-the-mud bore farmer who thinks the whole force/adventure thing is garbage and seems to take pleasure in actively standing in the way of Luke doing anything with his life.

I have always assumed that Owen loved Luke and did not want to see harm come to him.

“He’s got too much of his father in him”
“That’s what I’m afraid of”

He was afraid of what might happen to him like if he went and “followed old Obi wan on some damned idealistic crusade like his father did.”

At the time we don’t know if Lucas was planning on Vader being Luke’s father or just some Jedi who was killed by Vader during his adventures. Either way it makes sense for Owen to not want Luke to leave and possibly meet the same fate as his father.

So personally I don’t see why Owen would not try and protect Luke like he did in OWK, since ultimately Luke is like a son to him.

I'll excuse that bit because they are living in a hostile planet, with a lot of hostile beings/wildlife. Living outside towns like they do, they probably have to deal raiders too so they are probably at the very least, proficient at using blasters.

They weren't really awesome either. They got beat by one of the weakest Inquisitors who was also very much injured and could barely stand. They had all the open land around them and yet they chose to fight within the confines of their homestead where they come into range of Reva's saber.

Damn that gives me an even greater appreciation for the duels in this show. :clap

And it just goes to show how awesome Kenobi's comeback in the finale was that it seemingly erased his defeat in the third episode from the entirety of the internet. I mean how many Princess Bride gifs did their initial battle produce (okay mostly from me but still, lol.) But ever since the finale it's been "god mode" this and "super powered Obi-Wan" that.

Also watching the beginning of the video above where he starts out with their episode 3 encounter I first thought "aw man both duels were at night?" Until it hit me that that very well had to be Chow's way of conveying "the Dark Times" that the entire galaxy was in. Uniquely lit duels for a very unique period of time. On the nose but I like it.

I'm not necessarily questioning it on that basis, ie not that he wouldn't want harm to come to Luke or that he lacks all feeling for Luke.

It's more that the Owen character's story function in ANH is to stand in the way of Luke's destiny. Owen is meant to symbolize what Luke might become if he doesn't follow that destiny: bitter, lack of vision, solely concerned with the rudimentary, not getting involved - farm chores over dreams/the fight. Luke has even absorbed this mindset from Owen when he rejects Ben telling him to come to Alderaan: "I can't get involved! I've got work to do!"

Owen's function in ANH is summarized by stuff like: "That old man's just a crazy old wizard. Tomorrow I want you to take that R2 unit into Anchorhead and
have its memory flushed. That'll be the end of it."

So turning Owen into this sort of hero who's facing off with Reva in town and battling her at the homestead to save Luke's life is sort of an odd creative choice because it's not really what Owen's meant to represent in ANH, even if I'm sure in ANH we all know that as a farmer he'd defend the homestead against something like a sandpeople attack that might endanger Luke.

Valid insights but personally I'm fine with the Lars' playing different roles in relation to the heroes in different episodes, though in both instances he was protective of Luke to a fault. I say to a fault because if he had his way in OWK he would have gathered some townspeople and most likely killed Reva when she arrived which while eliciting a cheer from those of us watching would have prevented her from turning good under Obi-Wan's guidance. Likewise if Owen had his way in ANH Luke would have either been on the homestead and killed or at the very least unable to go off to do immeasurable good...once again under Ob-Wan's guidance. So in spite of the fact that Reva had to be involved on any level (lol) I do like what I see as symmetry in his character between OWK and ANH.

I like his breakdowns. I also like his breakdowns of the PT saber fights too:

I've had the same thoughts here. I'm no sword expert, but anyone who's done any sort of sword play with their dads would know twirling around is a good way to get stabbed in the back. :lol

Yea I always thought that they loved Luke. I never saw them as abusive at all. Luke seemed distraught by them being killed. Got over it quickly but still seemed very upset. Maybe it will be retconned that reva came back to make peace with a nice bbq but things went left quickly
