Re: Big Chief Studios Acquires James Bond License

Despite the payment problems I do hope this was a successful PO for BCS. I'd like to see this line do well.

Hopefully the many people who had issues and couldn't order will get that sorted out this week. Personally I'd like as many people collecting old Bond as possible. It's good for future figures.

Re: Big Chief Studios Acquires James Bond License

My deposit went through! Chose to pay over 7 months. The item description says it's only Oddjob, though. (But on the BCS site it's the three-pack.) Hopefully that won't give me problems in the future.

Re: Big Chief Studios Acquires James Bond License

If you have cleared it once it should be fine for the monthly payments I think. I never had any issues with those. I take it this is the first time you are ordering from Big Chief? It's just a new name for your bank so they are careful. I had that with ordering Kirk and Spock from a page I never had used before. My bank actually asked if I do trust them.

My bank lets me authorise charges from a different country via their app. So I just "unlock" the card on the day for example SS is charging my card and then it locks again the next day. Very smooth system.

Re: Big Chief Studios Acquires James Bond License

Yeah the tax excluded price of around $220 USD is pretty tolerable for me. Anyone know what the average cost of shipping to the US would be with this? I know it's kind of a vague question, just curious.

I got a call from my bank this morning about possible suspicious activity on my card and sure enough, it was the Big Chief order attempt. Do hopefully that is fixed now and I can try my card again later. If not I'll just have to pay in full with PayPal. Not my first choice, but I've never had issues with PayPal internationally.

I was told approx. $40 (32 GBP) to ship the three-pack and that's 'next-day' delivery (which is really two-three days). I plan to ask if there are alternate shipping rates/methods once we get closer to that time.

Did you ever hear back from Big Chief customer service Buttmunch? I found out that my ticket did get sent in last night, but I still haven't heard anything back.

Although I didn't realize this at first, I'm having the same issue that Buttmunch is having. Despite not being able to complete my checkout through WorldPay my order is coming up as cancelled and as a result, I can't pre-order any of the first edition figures since the BCS site won't redirect me to WorldPay during the checkout process.

Re: Big Chief Studios Acquires James Bond License

Collecting should be fun, not stressful...Big Chief makes it stressful at times. Do many retailers use this WorldPay?

Re: Big Chief Studios Acquires James Bond License

Oh no.... I know how important this is to you too, Alex.

I'm certain these won't sell out, and I'm even more certain that Greggo will make sure you and Buttmunch (and anyone else with this issue) will be able to order this Goldfinger 3-pack. It's aggravating, for sure, but I have no doubt you'll get your set.

Re: Big Chief Studios Acquires James Bond License

Thanks for the kind words, Greg! I completely agree with everything you said. Logically, I know that it is incredibly unlikely that I would miss out on these first edition figures, but I've got such a love for these characters that even the slightest chance of missing out is making me unreasonably nervous! :lol

No, not yet. I'm not expecting anything until Monday at the earliest though. I imagine they're off for the weekend like most places. I just told them this is my first time trying to order with them and I'm a dumb American so I'm hoping they'll have pity on me and help. :)

And like I said, if all else fails, I'll offer to pay in full thru Paypal. Hard to turn down that offer as a guaranteed sale is always better than someone on a payment plan with the options to cancel. I'm not too worried yet. But I due fear them selling out. Their exclusives are rather critical IMO as Bond's walther is his signature weapon and Goldfinger's and Oddjob hats complete their outfit. Ironically, it was Sideshow's Jaws exclusive that got me to buy from them for the first time, so the Bond license is a powerful motivator for me I guess :lol

Really hoping to see their Jaws someday soon, but I imagine Craig would likely be the next figure. Maybe Casino Royal, Skyfall, or Spectre with the respective main villain. Blofeld or Silva would be great choices, but I'm partial to Dr Lecter's earlier work as well.

Re: Big Chief Studios Acquires James Bond License

Skyfall with the buzzcut and pre-title silver suit or the Rome three piece suit from Spectre would be amazing.

Re: Big Chief Studios Acquires James Bond License

I think:

Jaws
Stromberg
Bond in naval battledress

or

Dr. No
Bond in tuxedo
Honey Ryder (though I wonder if BCS is ready for scantily clad female figures?)

TSWLM is the "Goldfinger" of the Moore era and lends itself to a similar pattern established with Goldfinger. But BCS may stay with Connery for a bit longer.

Personally I'd like to see Pleasance Blofeld, but that movie doesn't have Bond's best outfits (and not even one tuxedo).

Re: Big Chief Studios Acquires James Bond License

Just ordered Bond and only Bond for now. The "First Edition" and not the "Limited Edition" is the desired one, right? I'm too used to Sideshow's too straightforward way of saying "Sideshow Exclusive" to denote the difference. I really wanted Goldfinger in his smoking jacket and I'm not that impressed by the figure's likeness. As for Oddjob, I guess I'll have to be content with Sideshow's "likeness not secured by license" version, lol.

Agree with that Moore selection completely and with TSWLM being Moore's "Goldfinger"! I think another Connery wave right away would be a mistake but we shall see. As for any female characters, Octopussy would be a good one I think as she's a title character and not just a Bond girl. And a Pleasance Blofeld would be classic somewhere along the line!

I would like to see them go as follows with the waves:
Connery
Moore
Craig
Lazenby
Dalton
Brosnan (though I realise he would probably land in fourth spot)

Re: Big Chief Studios Acquires James Bond License

The next wave must be a different actor to keep it exciting and unpredictable. If it's just waves of Connery it'll get stale fast. Collectors grow weary of variants very very quickly and will spend that money elsewhere easily.

Re: Big Chief Studios Acquires James Bond License

I got my favorite movie right out of the box: Goldfinger. The suit Bond wears is just the one I would choose, and for the future...

I'd hope for a Roger Moore. I've spent the last few days watching some of The Saint. I'd happily buy 2 Moore figures, and, with the right suit and halo'd backdrop !!

I'm with Worgar on the most obvious Moore choice. Had it not been the summer of Star Wars, The Spy Who Loved Me would probably have made 2-3 times what it did at the box office. It's a fantastically adventurous and enjoyable film and a set from that . Of Jaws, Stromberg and that 007 fellow (in Comander Bond gear) would get my vote.

I agree. I think they'd want to get the "Big Bonds" done before going back to Connery or one they've done before. Moore, Brosnan, and Craig ought to be the next three Bonds. I'm sure they'll get to Lazenby and Dalton eventually, but I think the other three would be better sellers. If they were going chronologically, Lazenby would be next, or Moore if they're doing the "Big Bonds" first. I would think Craig, the current Bond, should be next on their list now. They've got the classic Bond collectors interested, now they'll want the modern Bond collectors (obviously there is a lot that want both). Nobody has done an official Craig Bond yet (ie Sideshow never did him in their line) so I think there is quite the market for it based on all of the customs we've seen since Casino Royale's release. Now picking WHICH Craig movie might be difficult other than it for sure not being Quantum of Solace :lol Casino Royale, Skyfall, and Spectre all have reasonable shots for different reasons. CR defined Craig and Bond in a new way. Skyfall is Craig's Goldfinger. And Spectre gave us the new Blofeld. All good choices for figures, even if the film qualities varied.

And I'm not so sure the three figure trend will follow. Goldfinger was an unusual film because the main villain and the lead henchman are iconic. I don't feel the need for a Stromberg or Drax to boss around my Jaws. I think a Moore and Jaws alone would suffice. If you wanted another trio with Moore, I'd go LALD with Scaramanga and Nick Nack. Jaws would probably be more popular though and that Navy uniform for Bond would be a nice new look for him in the scale.

Brosnan had a lot of forgettable bad guys though so I'd probably stick with Goldeneye for him. They could do a trio with 006 and Xenia. But that comes down again to whether they are ready for the female body needed for the character. I think that was another rarity film where the henchwench and the main villain were good characters.

I think it might be a bit of a juggling act to not just duplicate the Sideshow line while still making so many of those same characters. They did a great job with Goldfinger. They didn't do the black stealth outfit Sideshow did. Sideshow never did Goldfinger himself, but Oddjob was always going to be the same outfit so there was no avoiding that. Making Oddjob far superior to the Sideshow version helps immensely sell him again to the Sideshow collectors. Making Jaws in anything but the parachuting outfit again should be simple enough. I'd love to see him in one of the suit jackets with the suspenders underneath for those two distinct looks. Again, I think that Navy outfit for Moore would be a good choice to avoid any of the Sideshow outfits at first and give us a variety from just a bunch of figures in suits. Since Connery isn't in a Tux for this figure, I don't feel they are locked into just making the tuxedos for each bond either. I'd be fine if none of them were actually. Lazenby had his kilt look that would be a fabulous alternative for example.

They've got strong promise with these first three and as long as the quality holds up, and the payment issues diminish, I think they'll have a strong line on their hands for a while.
