I'm looking to get the Xbox 360 HD DVD player this holiday season. I was wondering if anyone knows if there are any stores that are having any good HD DVD sales tomorrow. Or, more importantly, any deals for the Xbox 360 HD DVD player.

I am pretty sure both best buy and cc will have one for around $199.99. I have the 360 one and I would say pay the extra money for a stand alone if you can. The 360 is so freaking loud.

Unfortunately, a stand alone isn't an option for me at this time. I got my HDTV 5 years ago and it doesn't have HDMI input. I'm not planning on getting a new TV any time soon either because I just put money into getting it repaired about 7 months ago. Looking back I wish I had just bought a new TV instead of repairing this one.

So I'm going for the 360 player since I can only use component cables. Unless there is a stand alone that can use component cables and upconvert standard DVDs...

I believe the only way to upconvert is with the HDMI. Pretty sure you don't get that effect with component cables.

Amazon currently has the Toshiba A3 for $169 with 300 and Bourne Identity. Plus you can mail away for the 5 free HD DVDs.

damn...i may bite but i hate the fact some movies may be limited to one side or the other....it's the only thing keeping me on the fence...that and my dang 1080i/480p t.v. won't die so i can get another one.

does this new HD technology improve the picture if your t.v. isn't 1080p??...oh and only has component cable plugs?

The Toshiba A3 is 1080i max anyways so it doesn't matter if your tv is 1080p because the hd-dvd will only play at 1080i max.

If your TV is an HD TV (which means it's capable of at least 720p resolution) then even if your only using the component HD cables it'll still look better than a DVD. I've noticed watching regular DVDs compared to an HD movie (even in 720p) the image is less fuzzy, the text is clearer, colors look a bit better too.

mine won't do 720p, only 1080i but 1080i is HD also.

thanks for the info.

On the sunbect of HD DVDs could someone tell me If I get a few for my 360 HD DVD player can they still be played on a standard DVD player?

Nope. HD content can only be viewed on an HD player unless you bought a disk that has one side Hi Def and the other Standard. :lecture
