I know there is already a thread on the subject of Blue Ray / HD DVD but I'm curious to see what the actual numbers are for Blue Ray vs.HD DVD on this board.

Re: Blue Ray / HD DVD Poll

I am in the Neutral camp. Gots to have Transformers in HD, even though Blu-Ray has better titles and studio support.

right now i only have HD DVD but hopefully the end of next month i'll finally get my PS3 i've been dying to purchase. depends on if the 40gb system is really coming out in the US.

Nothing right now... I was able to get the HiDef TV, but with the wedding I have to wait a bit.

But, right now I'm leaning more towards HD-DVD.

I originally was only going to support Blu-Ray. But, the difference in titles on both formats is enough plus the Amazon deal back in August (great deal on the HD DVD player and 8 free movies) was so good that I decided to go HD DVD as well.

I am glad I made the decision as I don't see the format war ending anytime soon, if at all. I can see both formats co-existing.

I am happy with owning both players and I can enjoy the best of both worlds. And, not worry about which format a movie comes out on now.

(That all said. If I had to choose a side, I'd still choose Blu.)

LOTR is a New Line title, and like Pan's Labyrinth, it is a catalog title that will be released on both Blu-ray and HD DVD on the same date. (Whenever it is released, that is.) So you won't need to pick sides to get LOTR in high def when the time comes.

HD add on for the 360. Will get a dual player when they are proven quality and around $250.

I am not going to hold my breath waiting for an official release of any Star Wars film in high def any time in the next five years or so. But when it does happen, the first one to hit will be Phantom Menace.

I have the 360 add-on as well and rent 95% of my movies. Holding out for a lower priced dual format player sounds like a good plan.

I wonder how much tinkering Lucas will do with the HD Star Wars films? They've already previewed replacing puppet Yoda in Phantom Menace.

Well, they did it as a test for Episode III, but they'd have to redo that because it'd look kind of odd for the Episode III Yoda to be in Episode I and then a younger Yoda in Episode II. Although it's a definite improvement over that ugly puppet.

I'm expecting with the popularity of LOTR and Star Wars that they will most likely release in both formats, unless by that time there's a clear reason to choose one over the other. But right now it's much more profitable to release in both formats. And I applaud Warner Bros. for trying to get everyone to do both, or to use the dual-format discs they've been developing (discs that have both HD-DVD format and Blu-Ray, either as a double sided disc or on separate layers).
