I guess this new trend is here to stay. Sad, really.

Who are these Chong anyway? Where are their previous 4 figures?

Don't give the slightest of ***** if these are recast or whatever, because it's all bootleg anyway, I'm having this set. It's absolute perfection.
One might agree or disagree with you. Only problem with your reasoning is: you are looking at the customs they stole. These are not their prototypes. So you are going to get something really different from what you now consider absolute perfection.

Yeah, it's not just a question of ethics, though that is a consideration if you want to support and promote the work of custom artists--Trevor Grove doesn't do custom/unlicensed work anymore that I'm aware of because his sculpts were recast, and that hurts us all. Usually Redman figures, etc. are total junk from what I've seen. Extremely false advertising.

The hobby has changed alot customs prices are now unaffordable so people have turned to the cheaper option. I guess collect what makes you happy. 🤷 Sadly it's a case of these companies are copying because they know people want it so they make profit.

There are 2 types of collectors... art collectors and figure collectors. As for this company I have their Forrest gump on order but I doubt the quality will match the promo.

I will say for those who blasted recasts then bought the Django set by present toys , can't sit their and judge. 😂

Well, I consider myself both. If I could get a high quality Mad Max figure, with a great, new sculpt/paint, accessories, clothing, etc. I wouldn't care if they produced 50,000 of them, I would still be into it. But I also really enjoy and appreciate some of my very low run customs from an artistic standpoint. Rainman, Cheungkinmen, Iminime, etc. all are great from that perspective. But I understand what you are saying.

It's all stolen mate. What difference does it all make?
That the pictures you are looking at are the actual custom figures. It’s like someone is selling you their drawing and use the Mona Lisa in the preorder.

Were any of these officially licensed? No. They weren't. Your point then?

People who are 'in favor' of recasts rely on the legal argument, as tenuous as it may be. The reality is, it's an ethical argument. And there is no valid ethical defense of recasts.

The other argument is the vast majority of people who collect probably weren't even aware of the custom figure releases. What are they supposed to do? Try to muster around another sculptor and another (extremely backlogged and ******* slow as ****) tailor, drum up interest and wait 3-4 years... or just buy this figure? What's done is done. If people (like myself admittedly) who want this figure, let them buy it. You're not going to stop production of it by crying about recasting. Everyone is aware of prototypes and what they show, even officially licensed figures differ from proto to release. Nobody is going to look at comments and say "oh I'll now go posting on random boards and hope someone will sell me their custom for $1,000."

It's funny because one of the first things that happens in Back to the Future to let the audience know that Biff is an fine fellow, is that he says he has to have time to copy George's report.

One of the defining characteristics that makes Biff the villain is that he's plagiarizing George McFly. He's 'recasting' George's work. Taking credit for something you don't deserve is such a fundamental concept ... and seemingly easy to understand ... that it was one of the main gags in that movie.

There are 2 types of collectors....Art collectors who pay premium and genreal who just want that figure. I have recasts and I'm ok with the quality drop, I got priced out of the hobby when artist started charging 1.5k. Topping it off with certain artist f**ked the community with an oversized sculpt and refused to fix it after despite everyone saying the same.

You'll never settle the recast debate so it's best to just drop it. We're all adults so understand that everyone collects to their needs be it art or a tighter budget. 👍
