Anyone been prescribed this drug? I just was yesterday but after reading the side effects people are having online I don't think I'm going to take it. Its main use is for severe depression but I was prescribed it for anxiety while I'm sick with the flu and having a breathing problem.

Its highly addictive and the withdrawl symptoms are said to be really bad. It also causes dizziness and the inablity to ejaculate in alot of patients, neither of which sound too appealing.

No kidding man, theirs some real bad stories online, and I have another less powerful drug called ativan for the anxiety when I sleep, so I don't see the point in taking this stuff at all.

I've taken it in the past and have had no side affects what so ever (obviously the ejaculation doesn't apply to me) but everyones different.
They have to list all possible and 'potential' side effects of a medication on there just in case so even very rare conditions are mentioned. Don't be too put off by them as from what ive found a lot of them never happen.

Everyones body is different though so if you start taking them and do have side effects that you dont feel right then go back to your docs.

:lecture This is true. Many times people won't ever suffer from the side effects, but Doctors have to discuss and explain them with their patients to cover their arses.

If you are worried, get a second opinion from another Doctor.

Always good advice.

And as others have said side effects to effect all people, but if you do get any (especially if they make life worse) then its time to try something else.

I have it, I've taken it (albeit only when I've felt I've really needed it) and haven't suffered any of the effects. If you feel it helps, just know that the side effects are usually in a minority and make the decision to take it, seek a second opinion or not take it.

I was told it ususally takes about a week to feel any effects, was this the case with you?

Yea, at first it took a little while to feel the effects in my system and to adjust to it but now I take it infrequently because I don't hit the lows as much as I used to. It was prescribed to me not long after my father passed and after taking it to help me get back into a cycle I've been good for the most part. Do I still need it? Of course, but the benefits way outweighed any potential side effects.

Any anti-depressant/anti-anxiety meds generally take at least 2-3 weeks before you start feeling any effects of it.
Citalopram if I remember correctly are part of the SSRI group and to be honest have far less side effects listed than some of the other groups that can be prescribed.

It all boils down to your need and what you're comfortable with really mate.
If you have doubts then either speak to your doc again or another doc for a second opinion.
The only other thing I would mention is (and this is dependant really on the dosage prescribed) if you do decide to go on a course of the medication and they work, do not just stop taking them. You will need to reduce your dosage when you are ready to come off them but that is something that your doctor will also help you with.

Take care

I've been taking 20mg once a day since last July. No side effects here.
Although, I have been told that I'm extra grumpy on days I forget to
take them. :lol

My parents have both been on it before and I imagine it is just a matter of time before I am.

They have never had any issue with it.

Why would anyone want to ejaculate in a lot of patients?

Good luck with this stuff and your flu. :duff
