Ok guys I need your help. Right now every time I boot my laptop outside of safe mode it seems to be crashing to a blue screen and says something to the effect of INPAGE_KERNAL_STACK_ERROR. I have no idea what it means.. do any of you? Can this be easily fixed? I have 3 papers due next week and can't access my files because of this so help would be appreciated.

Not that this is a guaranteed fix--but try starting up the computer with the Windows setup disc. This would startup the new installation, but instead of installing there will be an option for repair where it goes through and makes sure that all the correct files are there and replaces them if they aren't.

Also, if you have the computer set to save restore points then try entering Repair during the system startup (without the Windows disc). It should bring up some options and I believe the Restore Point menu stuff is there.

Also--Make sure you save any important stuff to a disc before trying anything--just in case.

Also--if you have a Windows Vista installation disc, you can reinstall Windows Vista on the same drive and it'll just place all your old Windows files and folders in a new folder on the drive called Windows.old so you would be able to reinstall windows without deleting anything (make sure you have enough hard drive space though, an additional 15GB for Vista).

I'm not sure if XP does that with old windows installations, haven't tried that before.

Thanks guys. I finally caught one of the ResCom guys on campus and they are gonna run a diagnostic on it. They said it likely sounds like a memory problem. Im running on XP though and Im praying my papers are still intact. I'd be quite pissed to find they were gone with about a week left to the semester.

A memory problem would show a blue screen with something like:

000x000x000x00-x000x0000x00

on the top left of the screen. If it's that, then you need some new memory sticks to fix that, or take one out if you have 2

Well I got it back from ResCom and it's dead. It failed the short hard drive scan. They managed to save my paper that is due tomorrow but I have to do my other 2 papers and 2 presentations again. So to anyone wondering I'll be MIA until probably May 8. *Sigh* So what's better, PC or Apple?

blue screen = screwed.. Both times this happened to me my hard drive pooped.. If you want fewer problems Mac is the way to go. With that said I use a PC still for some reason..

What you could also have done is get a working drive and make that your bootable C drive and then just put your drive as the slave D drive and that would have worked.

That's what I do when downloading too much porn screws up my drives...............

Well I still have everything and I have my desktop at home so I can try to salvage stuff but I think it's time for a new lap top. I had this one for about 3 or 4 years anyway.

Well I finally got a new hard drive so by Monday it should be back to normal and those I have dealings with I can finally get done! I still hate computers though and am now seriously looking at an Apple for all things work/school related.

I had a similar problem. I got a new hard drive and it fixed the problem. The old hard drive was still readable, but only when I installed it in a USB shell and plugged it in to a computer using Windows vista (it was originally a XP-using hard drive...go figure). But at least I did not loose any information.
