Deckard
Super Freak
Ok so last night my friend and I were discussing the Bill Murray roles thread I started and he brought up Atuk. I've heard it before but figured its interesting enough to put up here in case some haven't.
Atuk was a script written about an Eskimo Warrior who comes to New York and can't adjust. It was a comedy vehicle aimed at John Belushi. It's also considered the most cursed project in Hollywood.
Shortly after reading the script, Belushi overdosed. It was then sent to Sam Kinison who agreed to be in it and even filmed a few scenes before getting into a car accident and dying. Next they tryed shopping it to John Candy who soon after died of a heart attack, allegedly while reading the script.
A writer at SNL who was suggesting it to said comedians next suggested Chris Farely and supposedly even did a minor rewrite of the script right before dying of a brain hemorrhage, some say while working on the script.
Chris wanted to do the project and of course, O.D.ed a few weeks later. Chris called one of his good friends to offer him a supporting role in the film before passing, that man was Phil Hartman.
And finally the author of the book and then script writer died the next two years respectively.
It sounds insane, but it seems true that they all had some involvement in the project when they died. It was also joked about in Anchorman commentary where Adam Mckay repeatidly pitches the idea to Will Ferrell who wants nothing to do with it.
