I'm posting this in the sandbox, as i anticipate it to get rather nasty, rather quickly.

this is something that pisses me off, alot, and i think it should be a bannable offense.

I don't mind people showing off customs.
I don't mind if someone sells custom figures.
i don't care if someone gets commissioned to make a custom for someone. all that's fine.

what irritates me is certain individuals creating a custom figure, posting several shots of it, and end the thread with an e-bay link to that "one of a kind" piece that later goes for a few thousand dollars.
It's people using the freaks board for advertising, and trying to do so stealthily.

and i think it's wrong.
Am I the only one who feels this way?

Further clarification: it's people who make said customs, with the SOLE intent of reselling them, and using the board for free advertising that irk me.

it wouldn't even bother me if it happened only once. guy posts figure, people think it's awesome, he decides to sell.
that's also fine.
no, i'm referring to people who do this for a living.
and yes, there are people who do that on this board.

Hmmm...I am not sure if I understand. There seems to be a pretty microscopic aspect of the idea of selling customs that bothers you. And that is people who make a living at doing customs and selling them showing them on forums to garner interest.

Did I get it right?

How do you feel about people who create a custom figure, pull molds for the custom parts(head, arms, whatever) and offer to sell copies of those parts? Too mercenary for you?...PS

There are a lot of people here who's sole purpose in joining the forum is to sell customs and even more to sell period.

I think I know a couple of the guys you are referring to, and if you want to go by technical board policy, it is a no-no since sales are supposed to be restricted to the commerce section. BUT, I've generally let that stuff slide in certain threads (or a certain thread, I should say :D ), since it was probably only relevant to a small section of board members, and they were pretty nifty creations that weren't akin to a guy buying a Hot Toys exclusive then posting "if anybody wants this figure for only $100 over retail, shoot me a PM!"

Though I would probably never buy one of those since they are insanely expensive, I kind of like them being there because if the guys who post them weren't able to post eBay links, then they wouldn't post those at all, and I would probably never see those awesome customs unless I trudged through TF, er, other forums looking for them.

Dave could chime in with something more official and could dictate a stricter policy if he thought it was warranted. And if that happened, then they could go the way of the dodo, of course.

And I should add that if anyone really thinks they're being stealthy in pretending that they're here for one reason when they're really here for another one altogether, then they're sadly mistaken :lol

you guys hit it right on the head. I'm mostly just venting, but it irritates the crap out of me ( especially since it's generally done on multiple broads by the same persons). But I put it in the sandbox mostly to see if anyone else feels like I do.

to answer other questions. if a guy makes a custom, and then people ask him to sell recasts of his custom, and he capitulates, that's one thing. It's people who don't contribute at all to the forum/community, and act as more or less a parasite, using us as viral advertising that i dislike.
