Hey guys, I figured here would be the best place to ask.

I'm currently talking to someone about painting a kit for me and he was telling me that the trend these past few has been for more highlights than before, say 10 years ago.
I'm trying to get a visual representation of what he means by that if some of you could help.

Thanks! :wave

Sorry no idea what that even means :)

But be very careful who you choose. I don't have a lot of good experience with custom paints, many will promise you the world but never deliver once you commit. I am still waiting for my iron man repaint that suppose to take a few weeks, and it has been 6 months already. Another sent me back a piece that didn't even fix the paint issue not sure if he even did anything with it.

Wish sideshow offered a streamlined paint service for a reasonable fee.

Why don't you ask the painter for examples so you know exactly what he means rather than having others interpret his response or style?

I would assume he means creating depth using lighter and darker shades of the base color paint to bring out details like muscles and clothing detail.

As this is a question about a Custom, I have moved this thread to that section. Hopefully one of the customizers can help you.

what he means is that you make the highlights look less realistic and too bright.
But this method is only used on the gamesworkshop stuff.
Not larger stuff like 16 scale as it will just look stupid and cell shaded.

What scale is the model in question?

I agree with Hidden Jitsu. Highlights are more exaggerated on statues. It's an airbrushing technique where you paint light over dark color bases. It works really well for anime styled characters or comic book characters. Without knowing the context of your conversation, that is our best guess at this point.
