Question I'm gonna be ordering An SH FiguArts Juzo from Japan... Do I have to worry about customs charges??? If so how much all help would be appreciated thanks. I live in the US so I'm just making sure I dont have to pay any hefty charges...

I've been wondering about this for a long time and been meaning to start a thread about it.

I see tons of stuff I'd like to buy from Amazong that says "ships from Japan" but idk if that's safe and like you, I wonder if I'd be charged custom fees

It is possible. A lot of sellers from Asia tend to state the value of the item as being lower than what you really paid which I have always assumed was because of any potential custom fees that may occur.

I thought for importing toys into the US, you don't get charged? We've been buying Macross valkyries for years, 2 or maybe 3 $100+ toys in the same box with never any import fees.

For clothes and shoes, a different story - try to keep the magic number below $250 and you should be fine.

Oh ok, so it only applies to clothes and such correct? Well this figure is Only 80.00 so I should be fine then correct?

I live in the U.S., frequently order from overseas (even pricey figures like Hot Toys, Rainman figures, and Masterpiece Transformers), and have never received a customs charge. But then, I only order collectibles or fairly cheap electronics stuff like replacement computer parts.

Yes, as long as somewhere in the customs declaration is says "toy" or something similar, you won't get charged any customs fees.

So when you order from an overseas seller on Amazon (or anywhere else) does it come directly to your home (or wherever you had it shipped to) like if you were ordering from within the states or do you have to go pick it up from somewhere??

Also are the shippig charges accurate? I see lots of stuff on Amazon that say shipping is only like $6-$8 but it's from an overseas seller??

If the shipping is wrong I'm sure the seller will tell you if you try to order. You should only have to pick something up from the post office or whatever if they require signature confirmation and you aren't at home to get it.

I live in the UK and import/VAT charges can be really bad however I have noticed that there is approx. a 50/50 chance of getting charged with anything coming from the US (unless marked as a gift) but so far I have never been charged anything with stuff coming from the far east, it's almost as if they only check US mail.

Well, here's the trick. If you don't want to pay custom fees from US sellers, use USPS. Too many parcels for the customs to go through, so most of the time, you go unnoticed. Companies like UPS go through the custom procedure to go faster and declare everything so you pay every time. Basically, the slower and cheaper, the better! :wink1:

As for Asia, these guys know the ropes and never declare the real value of an item. so they will declare a 300 bucks figure as a gift or at a low value, thus, not interesting for the customs, and thus they let it through.

Japan doesn't play that game though and they declare the real value.

Over the years, I've found that ordering from HK, China, Taiwan or Singapore the best possible deal. You get your stuff earlier. You often pay more but in the end, since you don't have to pay custom fees, the total price is close to retail price plus shipping plus custom fees from an American company (like Sideshow):)
