Seems like the sixth scale world has had a quite a few female releases in recent weeks. Tonight I'm checking out another - the new GoT Daenerys from threeZero! She's not terrible...but she is a bit of a disappointment. You can find my review here:

or with the rest of the reviews at the usual:

Thanks for reading!

Michael

Thanks Michael - reading what you have to say about it, ** 1/2 rather than *** definitely.

Two and a half stars seems a bit low to me. Especially when you gave those 4" GoT figures by Funko the same score. Perhaps those abominations deserved a lower score?

Perhaps comparing an all plastic 4" $10 action figure to a $180 sixth scale action figure is ridiculous? :rotfl

I think its every bit fair personally. Not to speak for Michael but I would assume he's judging items on the merit of their contemporaries. Meaning a 1/6 200 dollar figure will be judged against others.

A 4 inch much cheaper funko will be judged along with the bar set by other similar products.

There is a bar for this style of figure and Daenerys falls far below it. I think 2.5 stars in generous. I'd personally give it 2 stars.

Also if you read what he's writing he's still highlighting the strengths fairly. In 1/6 standards the outfit wins. But the sculpt, accessories, body, paint all fall below.

He also fairly pointed out that these are priced a bit lower and he is judging it on that merit.

Personally speaking I'm more brutal in my assessment on these. I'd rather pay more because I end up dumping a ton more money and time into junky three zero figures anyways to make them tolerable among even the weaker figures in my collection.

It's his review, he can score how he likes. I thought comparing her sculpt to Jon Snow was absurd bit I respect and enjoy his reviews.

I get why he did that too... honestly it's fair. Same company, same license etc. It's about the standard.

Look this is a bad line in general but those two portraits are arguably the worst. (I think Ned sucks hard too though)

I think Jon looks far worse than Dany. But it's his review and I respect his opinion, and yours too btw.

Actually honestly I can’t argue with that at all. Once I repainted it a bit I saw likeness in Dany. I also think as far as refinement goes it’s better.

My personal opinion the often undiscussed stinker of the group (undiscussed because Jon gets all the flack) is Ned.

Also as bad as his head are his hands, boots and belt.

Well, duh. Of course he can score the figure as he likes. What's the alternative?

And for the record, I've always enjoyed his reviews... I've said so multiple times over the years as a member of this board since 2004. In fact, I check his website for new reviews about three times a week. I believe the first review I read of his was of the Marmit Boba Fett figure 17 years ago. So I've been a fan of his views and his reviewing format for a very long time.

And I agree he made many very fair observations of the Threezero Daenerys figure. As many times with his reviews, I really enjoy his actual discussions of a figure... weighting the pluses and minuses in each category concerning any given figure. He brings up many of the issues with a figure that helps consumers like me to decide whether to purchase the figure or not. I can't tell you how many figures I've purchased based on his reviews... including that Marmit Boba Fett.

However, I find myself, on several occasions, disagreeing with his ultimate score... that final score where he considers all issues he discussed concerning the figure and renders a star rating. And in this case, I was simply stating that I just don't agree with his ultimate score for Daenerys. Off by a half a star in my book. Not much.

And I've stated in the past when I've disagreed with his final score. I remember that I expressed in this very forum how I thought that his final scores for the original Toy Biz Lord of the Rings line were too high.

Also in the making that GoT figure comparsion, I didn't state the obvious... I didn't think that I needed to... but I wasn't making the direct comparison of both lines. So let me restate my opinion. In each of their respective worlds of collecting (4" and 12"), I disagree with both ultimate scores... two and half stars for 4" Funko figures has too generous in I've seen in the 4" collecting world and two and a half stars in the world of 12" collecting for Daenerys was too harsh.

I was not making a big stink here... just voicing my opinion in a respectful way. Or I thought I was.

Perhaps I should just go back to enjoying the reviews silently... limiting myself to only occasionally posting "another GREAT review, MC!"

I genuinely love Ned! Far better than that Asmus Bormoir. In my opinion anyway! I see lots of SB in the TZ effort but none in Asmus’. I think Jon is definitely out on his own as by far the weakest of this line.

Don't sweat it Proto - your original email did sound like you were comparing a 4" figure to a 12" figure, at least to me. And I understand not always agreeing - the final score is more than just an additive of the other scores, and involves a lot of personal preference in the end.

While I think Ned looks a bit like he was carved out of cheese by a caveman sculpt quality wise, what I WILL agree on is that he has better likeness going for him somehow than the Asmus Boromir which just looks bizarre.

Giving this set 3 out of 4 is giving it 75%.

What Michael has to say about the figure in the text doesn't suggest 75% to me. Reading to the end of the review and seeing a ***/4 would've been a surprise.
