Hey all,

A fellow board member wants to buy a $400 item from me, but he is located in Canada and wants to avoid paying the 12% tax. Is there anyway to declare it at a lower value so he doesn't pay as high taxes, but still insure it for the full $400?

I don't think there's any way to declare it for one value and insure it for another. I think that's considered fraud. :dunno

Yup, if you lower the value, then your insurance won't cover it. If they don't like it, tell em to piss off.

When I ship internationally I never mark the item as a gift and never mark it down as a lower value. It is in fact fraud to do so and a federal offence. It sucks that they have to pay charges but that isn't my problem and I shouldn't be expected to break the law to convience them as the buyer. I do everything in my power to insure the item for them and ship it properly.

l have the answer for you.l bought the darkness statue from darth waller and hes in the states and im in canada.and all together including the $65 shipping was just under $400 canadain.on my request he declared it at $200 and sent as gift, and the fees at my door threw usps was only $15.dont ship threw ups only usps he will save lots that way.but it has to be sent as gift if sent as goods then the canadian has to pay taxes and brokage and the price will be double or triple.badmoon is right about fraud but who cares everyone lies and rights gift,no one cares.

well then l would not off bought from you.l sent a pred to a guy in the states and insured it and the post office said do you want to mark it as goods or gift.l said whats cheaper for the guy,and they said mark it as gift,so they dont care. l guess the post office was helping me commit fraud then.

Like others have said, you can only insure for the declared amount.

So, instead of paying $48 more, the buyer wants you to take the risk. Is the sale worth it to you? Because if you insure it lower and something happens, you're only going to get the insured amount and still have to refund the entire $400.
