Did Sideshow ever do any badies???

You do realize you can just as easily check their website for the answer. :huh

As for TB, they made a few, but at this point, they'd be ridiculously overpriced. The 12" Witch King is pretty good but needs a bit of work to display with the Sideshow figures and the Troll is rotocast and horribly out of scale (in scale with the smaller figures though).

Yeah, I realized that after I posted this:lol I was just curious if anyone here did any custom work as well. Maybe they could post pics or something.

Question: Why is Gandalf so much expensive compared to the others in the 1:6th line??

There really hasn't been any custom work to write home about as far as the villains go. There was an awesome Sarumon project but I think that stalled out. And that was in the AVP Pred range if you wanted one. Most, as far as customs go, are just trying to finish the Fellowship.

As for Gandalf, inflation. The others retailed below $65. Gandalf retailed at $89 (as would the Hobbits if they'd been full-sized figures) when he was released. I'm not sure if he or CloneObi was first, but he was one of the first Sideshow figures to utilize the new HotToys style headsculpt. But the price difference is definitely reflected in the end product. He easily looks $25 better if not more.

Thanks for the info about Gandalf. Looking at his pics again, I can really see the difference. I have the oppertunity to get the whole set minus Gandalf for $350.(All of them being exclusives) But I don't know if I want the whole set or not:lol

It's a great deal, especially for exclusives. If I didn't already have them, I'd bite on a deal like that. If you pick them up, there's great "How-To's" to make a great Gimli and Bilbo to round out the collection. If you're a fan of the books and/or the films, it's a cheaper investment to represent the film on your shelves that's just as satisfying, if not moreso, than the overpriced Polystone and 1:1 stuff.

This is undoubtedly true, but why ? Did it really cost $25 more to produce Gandalf than it did the hobbits ? Other than the difference in the amount of plastic, there shouldn't be much of a discrepancy in the overall costs of the two figures, and the hobbits came with more accessories.
The size definitely was considered when the price was determined, though, as Yoda is being pre-sold at $70 while the larger Star Wars figures are $90.

Hmm, well I might just have to get them then:lol
Just outta curiosity, why didn't SS finish the line? They only needed to make a few more figs right?

Great job Craw! I missed your Lurtz. Definitely top notch!

Anybody looking at say Boromir and Gandalf can see the difference. Anybody owning them can feel it. There was a huge step up in not only quality but paint as well. Let's not forget that OPEC prices were at a record high as well during Gandalf's production and release so that would've effected prices on plastic too. As far as the difference between the Hobbits, I disagree. While the Hobbits had more accessories, their bodies weren't anything special (loose in most cases and in all, the nice gap in the exposed shins), their paint apps minimal and their clothes surprisingly cheap in quality, especially for the LOTR line. I'd say the accessories were an equalizer, padding the price.

They literally killed interest in the 12" LOTR line with the huge lags between releases. I still think that the line would be successful even today if they'd been more punctual in announcing and releasing figures, despite their claims of LOTR interest lying in other formats (which I believe is a direct result of the gaps between announcements).
