Or did I get scammed at a UPS Store?

I shipped out a T-800 PF this morning and was told they would have to package it (i.e. bigger box) if I wanted insurance guaranteed for more than the basic amount of $100. WTF?

Cost me an extra $10 because of the box! :banghead

I've been told the same thing. That if you want to "really" insure it, then they have to package it at the store. So I usually just do it all online and just drop it off at the store. During the online label purchase, I put the correct "declared value" and I hope that covers any damage if it occurs.

On top of that you have to pay the service charge at the UPS store of like $3 instead of going to the regular UPS location.

This has been going on for a while now. They didn't really do anything extra but throw some extra bubble wrap in the box for $1, but I'll pay it if it might jeopardize a claim dispute. I just shipped out a Sideshow Predator mask that had all the factory shipping boxes that it came with, and the UPS guy made me open everything up to show him how it was packaged inside. Spent a good 10 minutes opening and resealing it just for him to say "Ok."

I think they just do that so it becomes annoying so you'll have them package it instead of doing it at home.

The UPS store is a scam, no matter what you ship. They add their own fees ON TOP of the UPS fees. The extra fees they charge are determined solely by the owner of the location.

You should ALWAYS pre-print your shipping label, and then take it and drop it off at the UPS store. The declared value IS the insured value, regardless if they pack it or not. You can ask for a 'Drop-off label' when you leave it with them, and they will scan your label and give you a receipt.

The UPS store is not really UPS. It's UPS plus a middle-man.

F that, I wouldnt let UPS pack any of my stuff. I have never had a problem insuring for the full amount of packages I packed myself. Thats ridiculous............

UPS Store people are trained to try and make a couple of extra bucks by implying that your item wouldn't be covered if it isn't packaged by them. That's how they make their money, by adding services you don't need. Do not trust them.

I've actually never had problems with them until today, but I'm wondering now if their management changed rules or maybe they actually had a n00b employee who was the first who ever mentioned the extra packaging before.

Either way, I will now only ship with UPS if I pre-print the label and drop it off. $10 for a damn box. :banghead

ups should be shut down. just a company of con artists.when l buy something from the states usps is the only company l use if they cant ship it l dont buy it.

Still cheaper than USPS

for short distances, UPS can be more expensive, and sometimes USPS Priority is the same or even cheaper than USPS parcel. But for cross country trips, UPS is much cheap if you want reliable tracking (vs. USPS parcel) and USPS priority is very expensive for long trips.

It helps to compare each service.

The main problem I have with USPS is that tracking number is extra, plus they calculate shipping like the box is full of rocks which makes it very expensive. I had to ship a huge monitor a while back and it would have been twice as expensive to ship with USPS.

Last time I went to UPS, I brought just the box because I actually WANTED them to package it (didn't have the time/no extra boxes). I paid for everything and left, since they'd done it before. Then they went and shipped it without an external box and the buyer isn't too happy about it, so we're filing a claim since it got kinda messed up.

I've had plenty of good experiences with UPS, but come on.

You just dropped the stuff off and didn't watch them package it? :horror

Wow, you are a brave person.

I just shipped a statue and not only did I stand there and watch them package it, I helped. The lady didn't like it too much but I kept repeating the value of the piece and she eventually quit _____ing.

I was unfortunately in a rush and there were no problems the last few times. That'll teach me.

Never ever go to the UPS store. They add fees like crazy.

One example: Took a large box weighing maybe 10-15 lbs and they would ship it ground for $36.......went to the UPS warehouse and they shipped it ground for $15. They told me to never go to the UPS store because they add a bunch of charges so they can make money.

UPS is still cheaper, i just shipped a 1:1 Predator torso and I got quoted $68.72 at the post office, went to a UPS Store and shipped it ground for 32.00 bucks....no more P.O. for me...LOL
